WE ARE NOT BACK

Needed the win tonight to keep some momentum. Still a ton to play for though. Lock up the tourney bid with a decent seed, improve, and get salty in March....

Feels like the season that "could have been" right now though.

Its tough to lose like we have.

Can't lose that game to a team missing two key players. #2ndroundlossinbigdance

If you're talking the true/traditional 2nd round (round of 32), then Iowa would actually be right back to where the program was during the Tom Davis era. 6 of his last 7 NCAA tournament teams ended their season in that round.

Expectations, combined with multiple close "giveaway" losses, breeds frustration. Perspective is tough on nights like this, especially after a loss like this.

What do we mean by back? If we mean "Back to Davis-era standards," then we are on par. The majority of the time, his Iowa teams finished between 3rd-5th, which is where we are destined to finish. Do you mean "Back to winning Big Ten Titles"? Realize we haven't won a conference championship since 1979. Thirty-five years ago. If you say we aren't back until we win a Big Ten title, you're either unrealistic or uneducated.

We are NOT back to Davis - era standards. Go to the NCAA for the next 2 years, and actually win a game, then i will agree we are back to the Davis era. People are so hungry for a competitive team, that now that we actually have one, everyone wants Final Four. I don't blame anyone on that. However, there is no way we are back to Mr. Davis's record. Improving, but close losses only breed more close losses. Win a few of these games, and then I will get interested.

I honestly don't miss this. No one here cares if you "get interested" or not.

Exactly. I won't happen this year. 78-79 was my freshman year at Iowa. I plan to retire in 2030 and expect the streak to be 51 by that time.

You would think you would at least try to change your name if you were going to log in as an alt. That is about as lazy as the offensive sets tonight

I like this team but games like this kind of slap me into reality...

It's not the talent - its the mentality..

Collectively as a group they just are not clutch... can't be a real contender when everyone dribbles it down their leg from the free throw line ect.

This team seems like pretty much the same team as last year. Luckily, the B10 isn't as tough so we are going to get more wins.

Bilas' comments at the beginning of the game about this team seeming nervously amped was quite telling. This is the most experienced team in the Big 10, and we still are shy about being on the big stage. Until this team adapts from that mentality, I think we are destined for inconsistency.

All I care about at this point is making the dance and improving week to week. There will be another time to aim our sights on a Big 10 title.

Get a grip, man. Did you at any point prior to tonight really expect anything more out of this team than a second round loss in the tourney? I mean for reals, best case scenario is we would have ended up drawing someone like Duke in the second round and gotten crushed in "an upset."

This team is totally back to its place as a slightly above average Big Ten team that will have opportunities to compete when there is not a dominant team in the conference, and it is back in that it is a ball club that has a fair number of decent players, but not that one single guy who is good enough to carry a good team. It's also back as a team that will taunt us but leave us with nothing but epic fail when a big game is on the line, with maybe a win or two in big games during a season, but never when it really, really matters in the grand scheme. That's all it will ever be. If you expect anything more, you are nuts. Check my signature.

Yeah, I agree, but be careful because someone on here will cite KenPom and claim the Big Ten is better this year than it was last year notwithstanding the lottery picks who bounced from the conference, plus Deshaun from OSU, plus the decent seniors from the Illini who graduated.

This team STILL has no go to threat from the outside. That and the free throws will prevent this team from reaching its potential. We are back to Davis levels during his more "down years".

We (myself included) got a little too excited after the OSU game. Turns out OSU isn't that good and all the good teams we have played, we have lost to. What are we? A middle of the pack Big Ten team that beats up on the bad teams and loses to the top teams. We will be somewhere between a 5-9 seed and will likely bow out in the round of 32. Unless we go 0-fer we are in the tournament so not much to be excited about until March. Big Ten title is out of play and a top 4 seed is gone as well.

They are at least in the talk. They had a shot at end of game that didn't fall in. Yes, it would always be nice to win the ones youre suppossed to on paper, but conversely, until the season is over, over, they certainly still have that same opportunity to steal away the one or two on the road that they are
penciled in to lose.

Or did you really think we are back to being a final four team, and not possibly lose to anyone else, especially another top 20, or top 10 team?

We are back in many, many ways (not including clutch free throw shooting by several players), have patience and enjoy the resurgance.
