3-0 after losing to a D2 powerhouse. Fran must have taken away several pizzas. :)

Seriously, that was an arss-kicking by Iowa tonight. Thankfully, the Eagles could not hit the ocean from the boat.

Saw a tweet from someone from Milwaukee claiming it was their worst home less ever. Marquette is not good but we could have beat them by 40-50 if we kept up the intensity and not gone deep to the bench.

This team could be a lot of fun. We have a ton more shooters this year than previously. Jok, Utoff, occasionally Gessell and Clemmons. Now add in Uhl, Ellenson, Jones, Fleming. That's a lot more options. Lots of good looking young players too.

Now the caution is the B1G is absolutely loaded this year so it's going to be brutal getting into the top half.

Guard play was paramount and I see Iowa having an advantage at that position in a lot of games. If Iowa can keep shooting like that, teams will think twice about going zone against them. Woody did a great job not getting those moving screens and ticky tack fouls and played a bunch of good minutes. Uhl seems to have taken a step forward and some of the new guys are providing quality bench depth. Hawks just might have something here. The biggest question I had to this point was defense which was very good tonight.

Best ball movement and defense I"ve seen by Iowa in a lot of years! Got so many three point shooters on this team now, Marquette had no idea who to guard. Ya the G Eagles shot the 3 poorly but that's because Iowa allowed almost no inside out passes from the bigs to the guards. Best defense by Woody in his career along with all the starters. The announcers so wanted to talk about Marquette's freshman but Uhl, Woody, and Jarod made them look sick. Team passing and team defense vs. Marquette's one on one. I thought this team would be good by the Big season opener but now I have to change my timetable to say they might be great by the Big Ten opener.

What was the name of the boat........ The titanic? :)

They played well, fun to watch them get up and down the court in the first half. It looks like the loss to Augustana may have done them some good. Although, I was itching for FS1 to get a shot of Fran after he called the timeout after 3 straight TOs to start the second half. I love to watch those head-bobbing, finger pointing, walk away, come back for more, walk away, come back for more moments. Other than still being up nearly 20 at that point, that was the one time in the game where we might have come close to seeing it.

In case you missed it Marquette has a ton of talent and Ellenson is a lottery pick. Yada, yada, yada ya just got smoked and the lottery pick got 3 pts on 1-8 shooting.

Welcome to the big leagues WOJO. This is not Duke anymore.

Wojo looked completely lost. He couldn't make adjustments or he couldn't get the message to his players. Every time the camera got into his sideline huddle, he was doing ZERO coaching. Just another former Duke player that won't make it coaching a major D-1 team.

I thought the same thing about teams zoning us as well. If they try to do that, this year we have the inside out game to make them pay. Iowa just sliced and diced that zone, it was fun to watch. It wasn't just the outside shooting either, they got the ball to the high post at the free throw line, and the just killed that zone.

I think our bench is deep enough already. In tight games we will play the starters plus Uhl, Ellingson and Wagner/Jones. At least that is what it looks to me like who Fran trusts right now to play in a tight game.

I felt like all he did was yell "PLAY HARD!!!!" a lot.

He seemed near drunk to me during one of the camera time out segments. He would just say something very simple sentence, exactly like "it's crucial that we play hard" then he would just repeat word for word what he just said...

And they did for about 5 minutes to start the 2nd half, now, before that time and after that time, not so much, Marquette will probably win about 12-13 games, maybe 15 tops, like last year...

That team is not that great, and it is poorly coached. I'm sure Clown fans are scouting their minor league team wondering who gets called up next from Marquette.

I am not going to get too knee jerk about this one considering Marquette lost at home to Belmont and needed over time to beat IUPUI on that same floor.... but last night looked like a different intensity for this team then we've seen the past few weeks. For whatever reason, this team seems dialed in when they hit the road. As much as I thought that was because of AW, I think that swagger comes from Woody, MG, Clemmons and JU cause at points last night, it felt ALOT like last season. It reminded me a lot of last years game at Nebraska - one of which I attended. Nothing could go wrong. I really hope the Marquette matures as the season goes and can stay in the top 150 RPI cause that could end up being a nice resume boost come March.

I don't think it's too knee jerk of a reaction to say this Iowa team is going to be competitive night in and night out. I don't think we're going to beat ourselves too much this year. We're a well coached, experienced team. This team has been in plenty of tough road environments and guys like Gesell and Woodbury have seen almost every defense and strategy teams can throw at them after three plus years in the B10. I expect to have a winning record in the B10, and if a couple of the newcomers or Uhl really step up could be looking at another really conference mark this year. I didn't think Iowa even shot particularly well given the looks they were getting. In the first half, 95% of our shots were really good, clean looks, even when we went into a little scoring lull when they first went to the zone we were picking it apart and getting great shots.
