So, do you think this is just happening in the SEC? Or also in the Big 10?
My guess is that there are varying degrees of participation at all BCS schools (and some non-BCS schools).
I would guess that its a continuum. SEC is easily outdistancing the field. B1G has some, even Iowa has a little. But Kirk and co. are in the very shallow end.

If this is happening as much as the article indicates, why doesn't more info leak out about it? The people involved are not just die-hard fans who want their team to win even if they don't get any credit. If they are fans of a particular team, they have to be talking about it somewhere. And if they talk, then it leaks out.
Or in the competitiveness of it all, certainly a few bagmen are going to leak out info about other bagmen in order to get an advantage for themselves.
Perhaps this could work in silence if the bagmen really don't care about a particular team, but just want to get some payment down the road when an athlete goes pro. As long as they are "fans" of a particular team, I can't imagine how it could stay so quiet.
Does anyone here know a bagman? Maybe you have a "friend" who is one. What keeps them from bragging about their accomplishments? Why doesn't more info leak out?
I thought this was pretty well explained in the story.

I didn't find it convincing. Fans like this tend to want to talk about it to someone.
This is one of the reasons I only follow college basketball. Kids play for the love of the game, not some big payoff or NBA future.
