Way Too Early Top 25- ESPN

That surprises me.. we only lost Marble. We were top 10 caliber part of the season. Should be higher with the team Fran has next year.

Not sure if serious. We are not a top 25 team now, not even top 50 in the RPI, and we lose three seniors including a first team all-B1G player.

This top 25 prediction has no credibility whatever if it has Iowa so low. I'll ignore it.

Are you being serious?

We lose our best player and didn't finish in the Top 40 this season after a major collapse. Should be ecstatic with a Top 25 rank

At least I am not alone in thinking the Hawks will be better next season.

I definitely think we can be. I think the team was too reliant upon Marble this last season, and nobody else felt like they could, or should, step up. Especially since Fran rarely gave the opportunity to anybody else. Maybe we'll see better team play. More passes, more unselfish play, etc. And if Dickerson comes as advertised, he should be able to make up at least partially for Marble's absence. Landing Atwood will only help in that department, of course.

I hope your right, but facts remain we finished the year on one hell of a downward trend and just lost our best player to graduation. While I want to be optimistic, as a realist, I'm not sure what exactly leads people to believe we're a top 25 team next year based on the way we caved in down the stretch.

I was actually surprised to see them ranked. Looks like there's still some national respect for the Hawks.

Only 2 players scored in double figures in the last game of the season against Tennessee...Jok and Woodbury. One is a pure outside shooter and the other a legitimate inside presence. We also played 11 guys and 8 return. I can see 25th as being a reasonable starting point.

I was a bit surprised, too.

As others have pointed out, though, I also think Iowa can be a good team next year. We'll just have to see. There are some good pieces coming back, and as long as they improve, I think Iowa will be fine. White needs to be consistent, the way a senior should play, and I'd like to see Jok & Uthoff become the scorers that I think they both can be. Add that to the mix of Gesell, Woodbury, Olaseni and Oglesby, and I think there's still a pretty good nucleus of players coming back.

Not to mention if Dickerson ends up being productive, and there's the possibility of Atwood being a Hawkeye next year, to boot. I'm reasonably optimistic, actually.

Thankfully, we start with a clean slate next season. I'm going to hope for the best and that we improve and that the guys gain confidence and strength/muscle, especially. We were a weak team last season, that's for sure.

That's why the whole season is taken into account not a cherry picked amount of games. Also, you have to taken into account other teams. Just looking at Iowa's last 9 games is very narrow minded. Have to take it into account just not by itself.

I don't buy it. After the way they fell apart this year (and the fact that they had just one win over a top team all year), they should have to earn a ranking with their play on the court, IMO.

I'm surprised to see it.

If that surprises you, look at what they wrote about Iowa.

>>25. Iowa HawkeyesThe big loss for Iowa is go-to guy Roy Devyn Marble, but departing seniors Zach McCabeand Melsahn Basabe also provided quality play. Still, with three new recruits on the way for the Hawkeyes, they will have plenty of talent and depth next season. Incoming forward Dominique Uhl has a terrific skill set combined with athletic ability. Shooting guard Brady Ellingson brings a big-time stroke with the confidence to back it up, as his 3-point shooting has the potential to break open a game. Trey Dickerson is a junior college point guard who originally committed to Murray State and he could be a real X factor for this team. Fran McCaffery's team is sitting in a prime spot, as he has taken this program from the basement of the Big Ten to a chance to compete for a conference title next season. -- Paul Biancardi<<

Very interesting comments wrote there on Iowa. I have a hard time wrapping my head around believing it. Going to be real hard to remove that collapse they had from my brain to the end year. But, next year is a new year and we shall all see if stink/poison has been removed from the program. Although, quite likely we were still lacking the big time athletes and it eventually caught up with us both mentally and physically to end the year.

So, if you are a gambler, who are you betting on to have the better year? The football team or the basketball team? I'm inclined to say the football team with the super soft schedule, but we have seen that movie flight before and the football team failing to rise to the challenge.
