Watching/Listening to Games

I have recently moved to South Carolina and one of the major concerns of the trip has been how will I watch/listen to games this year.

Does anyone have suggestions? Football is a must and basketball would be nice, but not necessary.

I do not have cable but still want to try to have to tv or radio broadcasts. I have looked into the Big Ten Network and for $120 you have a year subscription, but I am not sure exactly what to. College Sports Network (CBS) has some sort of school subscription, but again not sure what it all entails.

If you have found something that allows access, please share.

I lived out of state for a year and dealt with missing Hawkeye football on a regular basis. Thank God it was a crappy year. My advice is to pony up the dough for the Big Ten Network. After the first year you miss Hawkeye football, $120 will seem like a bargain. You'll be wishing you had just spent the money. The BTN wasn't in existance when I live out of state so I was totally screwed. The Hawks are the main reason I moved back to Iowa and the move cost me $3,000. You're getting a deal at $120.

Outside of that, I'm pretty sure you can listen to the games on 1040 WHO. Unless they block the online stream, you could potentially listen that way.

If you have a friends/family back in Iowa with cable & internet, spend a $120 - $250 one time payment and ship them a Slingbox from an online retailer. After they hook it up you'll be able to access their cable feed online.

I've never used it and can't attest to the quality, but Slingbox has been around for about a decade now.

Sorry, I wan't very clear but the $120 for big ten network is for online access. I cant find anywhere specifically what this gets someone. I'm guessing they will only show the games that are televised by the BTN, but I saw somewhere on the site they made it sound like if the BTN does not televise it they will provide the radio stream. I am not sure exactly how this works, again, because I can't find a summary of what is provided.

WHO and any other radio streams are blocked while the game is on, one of the sports networks has bought the rights to online streaming. ( I think it was yahoo at one point, not sure if they still do it.) If I can't find a reliable avenue for streaming video I will get the audio stream, but want to see if anyone has experience with the video stream.

Thanks for the response.

I live in Myrtle Beach and can get all the Iowa football games on Directv. Basketball wise, you can get the games that aren't televised on Directv via the BTN.com or thru Hawkeyesports.com on your computer. You only need the computer screening for a few Nov/Dec games.

Direct tv is great but he's trying not to by cable or Dish.

Does anyone know if you can get the Big 10 Network if you live out of country? Also does anyone know if a slingbox will work for someone living out of country?

When I lived in Albuquerque, we just joined many other Hawk fans and went to a local sports bar. We had a great time.

I don't know where you live but I would imagine there are Hawk fans who live in SC, especially around Columbia and or Charleston. Start looking for a bar where Iowa fans meet. It seems that regardless of the state, Iowa fans somehow find each other if they look hard enough and get together.

You could start on all the Hawk sites. The rivals site has many subscribers and members as does this site. Make some posts about where you live and if there are any meeting places?
