Watch: Epenesa, Golston Preview '19 Potential with Dominating Spring Practice

never really thought about it, but that is one heck of a matchup for everyday practice. 4 potential NFL talents going at it every single day.

Wirfs sat out this practice but most days you are correct. And they are all guys that could come out early with good junior seasons.

I get that you want to keep your QBs healthy.
But a touch gets the whistle?
Let the defense wrap up the QBs before you blow the whistle. I'm not saying drag him to the ground, but a finger graze is a joke imo.

Not worth the risk.

What if he bangs his hand on someone's helmet on his follow through?

What somebody steps on his foot and he twists his ankle or worse?

What if some dumbass doesn't realize the difference between thud and full contact?

There's a very good reason no college or professional program will let you even breathe on the QB in practice anymore. Hell, pro players get fined for it, along with a vicious ass-chewing.

Yeah, I knew this was coming. As I said, I know there is a health angle. But then I saw WRs falling to the ground, RBs being tackled, basically everyone else is expendable. Agree to disagree that getting a hand on a QB = permanent injury.

CJ's last year was fucked due to someone being pushed into him, correct?

It's not that the chance of injury is higher, it's that the team is more fucked if the #1 QB goes down.

If you lose an OL, RB, or WR to injury, that sucks and you lose a stalwart or a playmaker, but there is a wealth of options behind them on any team. But if you lose QB1, you lose a play/protection/hot route called, who's also responsible for reading the defense, identifying blitzers and coverages, AND playing post snap. Not only are the backup options at QB less effective a majority of the time, but there is far fewer of them.

Maryland is the perfect example of how depleted or lacking QB depth can F a team up. It seems like they lose a guy there yearly.

Very few teams have the luxury of having a backup who is as good and as experienced at all of that as the starter, and even they don't allow that.

I'd never heard that story. Care to share? I'm sure whoever was at fault got a world class ass reaming.

I hope Eppy is ready to play all 3 downs. I could care less if he gets burned once or twice around the end if he is getting 2 or 3 sacks a game.

All four of our starting O-line and D-line bookends will be gone after the fall. All underclassmen.
Maybe it’s just me but I think Alaric Jackson has a ways to go, and it’s not just because AJ whooped him pretty good in the open practice (AJ does that to everyone). I recall him getting beat on a few occasions last year.

Also wasn’t the story that he had to play LT because he couldn’t play RT, thus forcing Wirfs to play RT?

Alaric Jackson has great size, but I’m not convinced he’s a great football player just yet. I think the potential is certainly there and he could take a big jump forward this year. (He was 2nd team All conference last year so maybe I’m just an idiot).

Speed rushers did cause him problems. Not sure if it was a footwork problem or what. There were times last year where guys just blew right by him.
