Watch Entire PTL Championship Game + Stats, Interviews

Thanks for all the coverage Rob! Good stuff all summer.

This is PTL, but IMHO a few things were noted and answered. Before PTL my starting 5 were noted but not set. Nobody was a lock except Jok. Post PTL I have 3 picks to start - Baer, Cook & Jok(Jok was always a lock). The other 2 starters will be decided in November. I would expect that to be fluid throughout the year, at least in minute distribution.

Baer has that toughness, energy and I think leadership that will need to be on the floor at the tipoff. This will be his 3rd season, so he is one of the veterans. He is more court-aware than anyone we have. He always knows where the ball is and what position to be in. He should start. I think he has earned it. More importantly, we need him on the floor from the get go.

Cook has been a pleasant surprise. Even tho he came in highly rated, the way he moves with the ball left or right is fantastic for a big man. Having an outside shot is my second biggest take on him. He will spread the floor and open up the middle. That's huge.

The other two starters are difficult to forecast at this point. Although I would say that Williams definitely has the lead for the PG. Bohannon will see some time here. I also think that Dailey will as well. Moss...? But I would say the PG position is Christian's to lose.
At the other post position I would have Uhl, but only by default because of his experience. Wagner & Jones will push him tho. Possibly some of the other newbies, at least for minutes. Still over 4 months before tipoff.

Pemsl is a baller, the guy will play. I really like his all-around game. I would say a probable future starter here down the road.

Kriener has some good offensive moves. He recognizes the position of others and makes a good decision to post, take a shot or make a move. Noticed that right away. He is polished there. Nice outside shot. With some coaching and experience this guy could end up as a starter as well.

Dailey is long, smooth and poised with the ball for a freshman. He has good court awareness, at least on offense. Defense? He has the skills, athleticism and length, but he has some work to do. Seemed like he was almost spacing off a few times. That'll get you burned. Coaching & experience will hopefully improve his D quickly. That is where we will need some defense, in the backcourt.... The knock on his size is not an issue IMO. He isn't a post player after all. That said, Dailey should see some minutes this year. He will have his chance to see what he can do in CHA right away. I am going to guess that he can play under the lights. Call it a hunch. Same with Bohannon.

Pemsl will see minutes for certain. As will Moss. Kriener & Dailey I had guessed to redshirt, but not anymore. The only reason they would, is because it could be a little crowded at their positions... Redshirting is definitely not bad. It would give them that extra year to play with more experience & closer towards their athletic peaks. Plus give them an extra year to play without their being as much experienced competition, thus more minutes....
ALL of our new bigman have outside shots. Love this. That is really going to open up the floor.... The main thing on playing time for all the newbies, will be defense. Whoever picks that up first will gain the most minutes...

As for the UNI guys, Morgan & Lohaus can really play. They are good. Thus the co-MVP awards for PTL. If McCloud is the real deal, and the others can pick up the pace & improve like they should. Then UNI could very well be in the NCAAs. Again. No surprise there. Ben is good.

Ok. My quick note turned out to be a little long. ;)

Thanks, Rob and hawkjunkie

Love having the chance to watch the championship game. Didn't get to IC for the PTL games this season. Very nice analysis of the players and game, HJ.

The PG spot should be the most interesting battle. Dochterman is perdicting Bohannon the starter. 60/40 split on minutes with Williams.

Jordan does come with some experience in a lot of ways. He went at it with his brothers all his life. That has to be one learning experience!

He's the only one I've heard predict Bohannon to be the starter

Yeah that is Docherman prediction, and he is really high on him, more so than anyone else I've seen or heard.

He is right there in town and probably has seen him play more than most.... Still that seems kind of a high prediction. But not out of the question. I guess I have not seen him play enough to know. If he can handle the ball with some pressure, and hit the clutch shot, then he will see some playing time.... A lot will depend on his defense tho...

I haven't seen him play at all, so I really don't know. Docherman has been high on Bohannon, even before the PTL. We have several resident HN posters that assure me that he sucks, so I have no idea what to thing of him.
