Wasn't it Clifford of PSU who gashed the hawks with qb draws in 2019??

I think it was and this is the thing that somewhat scares me. Even last year they started a new guy, big qb, because Clifford was struggling and the new guy ran that qb draw very well against us. Clifford can get on a roll throwing the ball also. When the qb runs and the fake handoff takes a couple of defenders out of tackling position it can be tough for the defense.

Not sure if PSU is still using this run play that much but I also have read and heard they do not have the big time running back/running game of old.

Yes, 52 rushing yards, but he was terrible passing. Only 3.3 yards per attempt on the ground, too. This Iowa squad is better on both sides of the ball.

Those are not great numbers especially passing but I remember he got some big first downs for them in the late 3rd and thru the 4th.

The real killer in that game is we were down an all-B1G LB (Welch) and had to go with a freshman (Doyle). He got worked pretty good.

We also did not have a dependable cash (true freshman Belton hadn't yet emerged), so had to go 4-3 (both to stop the run and because we didn't have a good cash), and Niemann got isolated on Hamler a few times to bad effect.

And our inexperienced interior OL got confused by stunts and blitzes.

Hopefully we have rectified most of those issues.

Well we do have a pretty inexperienced OLine but a smart veteran at Center calling out blocking assignments.
