WAS THE PENN STATE LOSS A PRECURSOR FOR A NORTHWESTERN WIN??

I was surprised during the week that someone didn't come up with this take on the loss to Penn State so I thought I'd throw it out there. I was thinking back to when I played and the coach speak that I heard. One game at a time and the only thing were worried about is the next team on the schedule. Bull Pucky. Ok here is my hypothesis.

Most of the Hawks haven't beat the Cats. So you have a week off as we heard KF say that the veterans didn't do much on the bye week. After the week off you practice to play a team that nearly lost to a Indiana team that was beat by North Texas. You have owned this team the last 9 games but the next opponent on your schedule is a team that has owned you.

Now with that said think about being 19 again like these guys are. There was always that team that you know you're going to beat on the schedule. Then it just happens that the team that has owned you is next on your schedule. You can't tell me they weren't looking ahead to playing the Cats. I think with the rustiness of not practicing live for a week and the look ahead factor to the Cats gave us the sub-par performance at Penn State. I may be crazy but I see a focused and hungry Hawkeye team bent on embarrassing the wildcats Saturday night. That's the way I see it and I hope I'm right, call me crazy if you want???

MacMillan is not going to be back for awhile. That means Iowa is going to be in a tough spot to win this game. Their line has sucked since he went down.

You can talk all you want about motivation etc. But that is meaningless without strong line play on both sides of the ball.

No. Northwestern is going to win this game by 10+. They will dink, they will dunk.... just like they've always dinked and dunked. We'll keep it close during the first half though.

After numerous 3 and outs and/or punts from inside our own 40 yard line, our defense will have been on the field a lot... and it will start to show towards the end of the 3rd quarter.

We'll look exhausted in the 4th quarter as NW salts away sizable lead on their way to a 27-17 win. And unfortunately, the boo birds will be heard loud and clear.

It was actually brought up that the last time Iowa lost to both PSU and ISU in the same season they beat NW, of course it was also the last time Iowa didn't make a bowl game as well.

Does it ever get tired being the smartest guy here all the time?

Seriously, Miller should hire you.

Bump.

Wow, why don't you cater to his ego some more.....maybe ask him out on a date.:)

I don't swing that way cowboy. But if I did, and football knowledge was anywhere in the top ten of reasons to date someone, I suppose...

If you werent sure about the game this weekend this should make you 100% confident in an Iowa win

I am not sure BK has EVER been right from OU & Texas to the B1G, Iowa rolling Wisky last year, Pitt beating Iowa and even CJ starting by midseason

BK may have the score right but its Iowa on the winning end

Here's just a thought, but we keep talking like Northwestern is such an amazing team. Sure they've had Iowa's number in the past, but this Northwestern team is nowhere near the same team that has given Iowa fits in the past and haven't looked anywhere near as good this season. Not saying we're going to roll them or that we'll even win this one, but I'm tired of the Northwestern world beater talk. If Northwestern was converting 3rd downs this season like they had the past few years then I'd be worried, but IMO their offensive efficiency has struggled as much as our defense.
Call me a homer, but I'm thinking Iowa comes out on top and puts the past behind them.

Not saying Iowa can't win, just that it is going to take a significant improvement in line play that just got harder to come by with the bad news on Mac.

This would be a nightmare situation with all the recruits in town.

Again, just my opinion, but I'd be shocked if Northwestern's defense was anywhere near as good as PSU's. I realize we failed to execute and made a number of mistakes offensively last week, but I think as a fanbase we failed to acknowledge how well PSU's defense played.

The Kiities don't have PSU's defense. But they can do some of the things that make Iowa's offense struggle. The key will be if the Hawks can adjust and capitalize.

Reading this post makes me feel A LOT better about the Hawks chances on Saturday.

He hasn't played all season. The line hasn't been that bad all year except for last Saturday so now all of sudden that will be the norm going forward?

Jesus Christ we are talking NW who has the worst D in the conference, it won't take "significant" improvement from the line for Iowa to move the ball.

And if Kirk allows KOK to open up the offense. If the Hawks stay with the same stale gameplan....they lose.
