Walk-ons question

Recently I was talking to my dad about how I'm excited to see our rise back in Basketball. Usually when we talk about the Hawks I have a little bit of info he may not have heard about in either basketball or football (99.9% got from Hawkeyenation). He said something that threw me off that I hadn't heard. He asked if I had heard anything about a walk-on guard that we have that was turning some heads over the summer. I'm not putting any weight in it or thinking anyone else should I'm just curious if anyone else has heard something along those lines and if so what information can be given.

Andre Murphy will not be playing on this Iowa team.

Sadly this, I wish the intramural legend would have had the chance to at least wear the Iowa jersey.

I am sorry but it is hilarious how they refer to him as an intramural legend. I play with him a lot but the legend status is just to much. He would have been a good guy to have on the team last season though when there was no back up point guard.

More like an Internet legend. Pretty funny how these things get momentum and just start rolling down hill. One idiot on this board said he would have a better offensive game than Horner or Oliver. Seriously.

It was Steve (oops I can't leave campus to recruit because I lied about my two decommits) Forbes all over again.

We do have some other pretty legit walk-ons other than Murphy. Stokes, and the two others, they have good high school and JC numbers(wanna be here Iowa guys!!), maybe he was refering two one of those guys. I think they can add depth, and wouldnt be surprized to see some contribution from some of them. People are forgetting that coach has brought in a good walk on class, along with filling holes. So dont be dissapointed when we lose a guy or two, we got alot of lines in the water we're gonna lose a few, (gonna catch a couple).

stokes only averaged 5.7 pts and 3 boards a game as a senior, he probably isn't getting talked about much right now. he might need a few years to develop yet.

I am not sure if this is a serious post or not, but Murphy was the best "walk on" by far in the PTL by most accounts.

For this year...absolutely. Stokes is completely undeveloped but for a kid his size who seems like he has a ways to go to grow into his body, he has some surprising handles. I would not be surprised to see him playing in year 3. He may never develop but it won't surprise me if he blooms.

I read this summer that Jordan Stoermer had a good summer in the PTL. I watched the scrimmage 2 weekends ago and he didn't seem to do much.

Was talking about Stoermer and Stubbs, Stokes will be a project, but nice size (glad to have him) I saw on the roster we also have Cody Cox from warterloo havent heard of him, anybody have any info?

Cody Cox

Reminds me a lot of Devan Bawinkle. In the 6'4" - 6'5" range, lanky, decent handles, quite a good shooter. His prep stats aren't eye popping (3rd on his team in scoring: ~ 10 ppg and ~2.5 reb), but there's something about him that I think he can be of benefit to the team; especially on the scout team.

On another board there have been some who have questioned why McCaffery would ask him to be on the team (I've staunchly supported him as I would any Hawkeye), but in talking with a friend of mine at the Gazette the walk-ons were invited because of certain skills both tangible and intangible. I took that to mean, kids without ego issues and understand their roles as practice players first, with enough basketball skills to contribute come game time should injuries/fouls necessitate digging deep into the bench.

He's a good kid and he's all Hawkeye. If McCaffery thinks he'll help the team then who am I to question.
