Wait on season tickets is killing me....

So the system that the U of I has set up for new season ticket purchasers sucks. You have to send in your money ($720+) and your ticket application, they then hold the money until May 1st at which time they rank the new applications based on priority points and dole out the tickets. If they have more applications than they do seats available, those with little or no priority are SOL and they send you the money back, I assume you get your money back.
Luckily I am an alum and have had season tickets for 4 or 5 years in the past so I have some priority built up but the uncertainty is killing me. Unfortunately I had to give my seats up for the last three years due to getting married and having two kids. But I am getting back in the game now!!
Anybody else having the same issues? Do you have priority built up?

Crap. My buddy and I just got of first set of season tix last year...so we have practically nothing. Hopefully they don't have a ton of new requests this year. Ugh

If you had tix last year you have nothing to worry about as long as you renewed. This is strictly for new orders for people who did not have season tix last year.
Anybody know how many season tix they sell? I would guess excluding he student and visiting sections its around 50k or 55k?

I'm right there with you. I've had season tickets the last 10 years with my dad but of course they were in his name. This is my first year ordering my own. I don't have any priority points but i did donate $200 so hopefully that helps! When are we supposed to be notified? Sometime early next month after the renewal deadline passes?

Ah, good to know! I wasn't sure if it mattered that we had them last year. Glad it does. Good luck! :)

I think donating and becoming part of the I-Club gets you some points. I can't remember how that works, each level of the I-Club gets you a certain amount of points. I know being an Alum is 10 pts and each year you had season tickets in the past is 3 pts.
I think they are supposed to notify us in mid May, which is an entire month away!! Or I suppose if you find your credit card balance is $720 less than it was, you probably are not getting tickets.

I've been nervous about getting my tickets as well, since this is my first year getting tickets on my own. I an alumni so I automatically get 10 points but that's all I have.

I called the ticket office out of curiosity and they told me that they've had a substantial increase in season ticket requests so that didn't make me feel any better.

As others have said if you had tickets last year you will get those same seats again this year, the problem could be if you look to increase the number your season tickets from say 2 to 4 then you might be SOL with low points. The higher priority points will get first crack at additional season tickets and they will work their way down and then whatever is left will go on sale to the general public in June.

Last season my crew added and upgraded and the U never even notified me that either request had been fufilled. I ended up making a trip to Iowa City after season tix had already been being mailed to find out what was going on with mine. Fortunately, both requests we had made were accepted....they just didn't tell me or mail my stuff out. Unreal really.

This year we are adding one more seat....I'll probably make a trip to Iowa City in early may instead of August this year to find out. Very frustrating that its a complete wait and see game....and then not even to be told what the outcome is.

I'm in a similar situation. The waiting sucks. My girlfriend works for the University so I'm getting them in her name to save some dough. And then I guess I will donate some more money to get some more priority points.

Here's my question. After they take my money and go through the process...and let's say I get tickets....am I obligated to get them if the seats suck? Or can I withdrawal my order. I have enough connections that I don't necessarily have to get these tickets. I just thought I'd do it this year for a change.

If you don't contribute to get on the sidelines, your seats will probably suck. I think the contribution chart is endzone to 20s - $200 per seat, 20s to 40s - $400 per seat and 40s to 40s is $600 a seat. The year they moved the student section, we got seats in the corner of the endzone. They were awful, but then the next year we donated and got put on about the 30. It's well worth the extra cash.

There are no bad seats in Kinnick...we donate $50 a seat and set in 102 row 23 and they are fantastic seats!!!! 3yd. line and close to the aisle...I have sat about everywhere in Kinnick and there truly is not a bad seat.

Good to know. If I read the ticket application correctly, per seat gift requirements for UI faculty and staff are half of what is required for the general public.

I'm gonna have to hang on to this girl. :)

You are stuck with those seats. But with the home schedule this year you would have no problem selling the ISU, OSU, and PSU games for almost what you paid for the 7 games if not more. Then next year you can donate the required amount per seat on the sidelines and move if you would want.

You are crazy okeefe, there is really not a bad seat in kinnick

Corner endzone seats are bad seats. They aren't obstructed view or behind a pole or anything, but they are bad seats. You can't see anything on the other end of the field, you get no depth perception like you get on the sidelines and you don't get the straight on angle that lets you see plays developing that you get when you're in the back of the endzone.

I agree. I don't really like endzone seats period. I'm not saying they are technically "bad seats". I just don't like them.

I can't even begin to tell you how completely wrong you are. We sit in the SE corner of the South endzone, and they are the best seats we've had all the years we've had tickets. We used to sit right below the big scoreboard on the south end, about 10 rows from the top, and we also have been in the north endzone a few years. Sitting high up on the south side gets you a nasty wind in your face all game during the season, as well as being shadowed from the sun, which can get quite cold during the October-November months adding the wind into the equation. Sitting on the north side has you smashed in like a sardine, since the south end has wider allowances per-seat. Our tickets in the section we're in now are about 30 rows up from the field, and I can't complain about them 1 bit. I can turn around and see the entire south scoreboard, and we're close enough I can see everything happening on every play, not at all like you describe above.

Sorry pal, I sat in the SE corner one year. I thought so little of the seats that I donated $400 per seat to get on the sideline. I don't have to turn around to see the scoreboard, either. I'm in the shade and out of the rain due to the overhang on the Stadium. I need to be in the shade bince I'm a daywalker otherwise I'll sunburn even in the later games.

I've sat on the 50, south end zone and NE corner endzone. From my perspective, I didn't "enjoy" the game any more or less based on seating. Just being in there is awesome. I hope to have season tickets in the NE endzone this year, about 30 rows up. Wouldn't want to be much lower than that. I completely agree that there are no bad seats in Kinnick.
