i have a friend down in baylor and its the equivalent of penn st becoming a 3 seed with what he's been able to lead them through.

He is probably my top candidate after I went to the Baylor scout board last night. Those people are a bunch of jerks. There was an iowa fan that they ripped into pretty bad, and said that the problem isn't the coaches, it is Iowa... I really want to get Drew so Baylor can drop back to the irrelevant thug college they were before Drew got there. Plus he would do wonders at Iowa.

I'm just not sure going from Baylor to Iowa is much of a move. Other than money, I don't see that benefitting Drew whatsoever.

Drew is a midwest guy. Waco is a hell hole. Iowa City is heaven compared to Waco. This is a move I could see him making... plus.. Iowa can pay him more.

If that were true, Lute could never have taken us to the Final Four. Ravenling wouldn't have been able to bring in the recruits that he did, and Mr. Davis wouldn't have been able to win 13 NCAA Tournament games. With a good coach, we will be good again. No doubt about it.

I really, REALLY hope that this is true, as you may guess by my avatar. Drew has been my top pick (after Pearl) for quite some time now. With Pearl apparently off the list, Drew has taken the top spot.

But recruiting would be more difficult at Iowa and he's already rebuilt the program. It would be harder to step away at this point for him.

Right now my top two in this order are...Drew then Forbes...

What about going from the 7th biggest basketball story in the state to the number 1, year in and year out?

Big 10 > Big 12

$$$$$$

It should be significantly easier to recruit to Iowa than it is to Baylor...

Whomever said that Iowa City is heaven compared to Waco understated it.

In reality, Iowa City is a pretty magnificent college town. If you are a college coach and not at a city school, Iowa City has to up there on the quality of life list.

Unlike in the state of Texas, Drew would play second fiddle to no one in Iowa, except for maybe Kirk Ferentz. But he would be THE basketball coach in the state.

yeah. but i am worried that they will make a deep run in the tourney. i have them in my final four. not saying since i have them then it will happen. but i think Oregon could throw a lot lot more $$$, to go with a brand new state of the art arena his way over us.

I think Drew wants a pay raise. He knows mutual interest from Iowa is the best way. Either he takes the Iowa job with a significant pay raise, or he leverages it against Baylor for a significant pay raise. Drew has outperformed his current situation, and he would be stupid not to listen to Iowa. A pay-raise plus some quality of life concerns, might be enough to lure him here. I have no doubt Drew will recruit here, he recruited to Baylor. He knows how to play the game.

I think it pretty much goes without saying that Drew won't trade the Baylor job for Iowa straight up. I would make a guess that we'd have to pay him at least $1.5-$2M, but whatever gets him here. Barta already said $$$ won't be an issue with this hire, so if GB is willing to put his money where his mouth is, I wouldn't think giving Drew a good payraise should be an issue..
