The key to living in Chicago is not having to drive in and out of the city all of the time. I lived a mile from work, and rode my bike. I spent less time commuting in Chicago than I currently do in Madison.

However, if you have to drive in and out of the city every week, the best bet, as Travis noted, is to travel really, really early in the am.
