Today on Veterans Day I want to thank all of the veterans who've served and protected my right to live in the greatest country ever. I also want to remind everybody of a great veteran and great Hawkeye Nile Kinnick. We are coming up on the 75th anniversary of his winning the Heisman Trophy and giving what is still considered the greatest Heisman speech ever. I don't have a link to the speech but maybe someone could provide it. I encourage everyone who hasn't heard it to give it a listen, you won't regret it.

That, sir, is one thing we can agree on.

Here's his full speech. Usually you just get bits and pieces in most videos.

edit: if any one can get the video to embed it would be appreciated.

Well played Doc. Something every one of us can appreciate and get behind.

Fun Fact, my nephew kicks for Omaha North football, so we've been to a few games. Their stadium is Kinnick Stadium(he attended school there), and they tell the story of Nile Kinnick at ever home game over the PA system. They mention the War Hero, Heisman....but typically leave out that he is a Hawkeye legend....damn nebby lovers.

My daughters name is Hayden, her twin brother's name is Blake (but I lobbied very hard for Nile, at it came down to those to.....ultimately decided by the wonderful woman to actually carried them for 7 months)

Go Hawks, make me forget last week....please.

Hayden for a girl?

That's just....ugh.

You should have kept the theme and named her brother Sally.

Meh, says you. We actually get a lot of compliments on the name, but your opinion ranks right up there.

Yes, because people are going to come out to your face and tell you that your child's name is stupid.

She's probably ugly too, but I bet a lot of people don't tell you that, either.

Way to de-rail a thread for the vets.

Thanks to my Dad ,my son, and my nephew who all served. Have a happy day!

Never was so much owed by so many to so few

- Winston Churchill

Thank you to all the Veterans out there.

He was talking about the RAF, not our guys.

Oh my god could you just shut the **** up? I was "one of our guys" and you're being a complete DB in a thread meant to honor Veteran's. GTFO.

I don't normally care too much when someone derails a thread, but you really picked a classy one to choose this time.

You always care.

So you're just here to pat yourself on the back.

Got it.

Did I pat myself on the back in my original post? No I didn't. I said thank you to those who have served. I only told you I'm one of them because you're being disrespectful and when it comes to something like this I take it personally. It's completely unnecessary. Show some respect.

Settle down Beavis. Go eat your free breakfast or something.

BTW, we lost 3 out of our last 4 wars. Which one were you in?

The US military is having as much success lately as Iowa's football program.

First, I would like to thank all those who served our country and those who are serving at this time

With that, the University of Iowa set up an Xbox One at the main library and brought in Vets to challenge students to a game of Call of Duty. Pretty neat.
