This is my first football season on Hawkeyenation, and as a hawkeye fan I hear all the time that hawkeye fans are a bunch of babies and all they do is cry, and I never wanted to believe it, but as I keep reading threads on this site, it makes me shake my head in disappointment. Yes we lost, it sucks to loose, but move on and realize somthing.
We played against a very very good Defense, probably top 3 in the B10, they played so well that they disrupted our O pretty well, our recievers dropped alot of balls, and the blitzes were not picked up as well as they shouldv been, (Rodgers first game back). Now look at PSU's offense. They had alot of luck go their way, tip balls that were caught, great sideline catches, and a ball hitting the refs foot and being caught. They also played straight up hard nosed running B10 football. Our D has been playing spread teams all year.
I truely believe we will not see a D that good again all year. I also believe that we will win the rest of our games leading up to the divisional championship game in Lincoln, and that our O, not our D will lead us there. JVB is a great QB, maybe even better than Stanzi. He has the weapons around him and a solid O-line that will make Iowa score a ton of points. wins against N.western, Michigan, and Michigan st. will be shootouts with big Offensive numbers on both sides (MSU might be a little more of a D battle). Minnesota, Indiana, and Purdue are not good folks, and those games will be blowouts. We beat Michigan At the big house last year, handlely. they are still not a dominate team, and having the game at Kinnick is huge for us.
Many of you are calling this a lost season because of the two losses that we had. we had a chance to win at ISU but we didnt take it, and PSU's D won the game for them. I truely believe that this is the moment where Iowa turns things around, much like what happend in 2004 after the loss to michigan, remember how we all felt after that loss. and remember how we didnt know a thing about Drew Tate, also we ended up having no running game later in the season? I see this yr looking alot like 2004, but with less D.
So step off that legde hawkeye fans, have another beer, get behind this team, have faith, cheer loud at kinnick and we will witness some exciting football games coming up!
