VCU killing Georgetown

The team that the "experts" thought didn't belong.... by the way how good is the Big East really?

I have no idea what is up with G-Town. They certainly belong in the tournament but have not shown up tonight. Their shooting is god awful and their perimeter D is not existent. They lost 5 out of their last 6 but beat a bunch of NCAA non-conference tourny teams (ODU, Wofford, UNCA, Mizzou, Memph).

The Big East has looked mediocre at best. Syracuse is clearly better than Ind State but they are letting ISU stay in the game for some reason.

Big East=over rated

IDK. Overrated is probably a little too harsh. Louisville lost as a 4 which isn't exactly unheard of. Marquette won as an 11 beating a 6 and Gonzage won as an 11 beating the 6 St Johns so those offset. Plus Gonzaga game was pretty much a home game for them so that game wasn't really a surprise.

Did they finish 8-3 or 7-4? in the first round. Thats not terrible by any stretch.

Speaking of VCU, I'll never forget being on campus in '80 when the Hawks beat them in the first round to start that great run to the Final Four that year. The campus was electric!

Big East is 6-4 right now. Cuse will push it to 7-4

The Big East is 7-4 (.636) with 2 of the losses being routs. The Big Ten is 5-2 (.714) with both losses being by 2 points FWIW.

The team that the "experts" thought didn't belong....

The experts were right. As Jay Bilas said, the discussion about who belongs and who doesn't is based on their resume and ends once the games begin. I'm sure Iowa could beat several tourney teams, too, but that doesn't mean they should have been put in the tourney. And... 32 teams lost Thursday/Friday, but that doesn't mean they didn't belong in the tourney.

Again, I think that virtually every year the Big East will be proclaimed the best conference simply due to the fact that having 16 teams in a league allows the top 10 teams in the league to fatten up on the bottom 6. So they end up with less 9-9 records like a league like the Big Ten. Playing on the road in the Big Ten,with bigger arenas, and crowds, is the toughest deal in college bb,and it makes the league look mediocre...but in the end,it toughens these teams up....which is why the Big Ten has the most FF participants of any league since 1999.

The Big Ten has been the most impressive league so far...5 blowout wins, with 2 two point losses to higher seeded teams the only blemishes. The problem is that due to the downgrading of the Big Ten...the Big East got much better seedings, which means the Big Ten has to play 2 #1 seeds in the second round...while the Big East escapes the #1 seeds until next week. This year, only the #1 seeds are to be feared...maybe.
Avoiding the #1 seeds could have allowed for 5 Big Ten sweet sixteen participants...but if Illini or Wolves upset KU or Duke...now we are talking...

I agree with the Big 10 seeding provides tougher matchups. However, I would rather play the #1 seeds early in the tourney (like UNI-Kansas last year). That's the chance to get them with less prep time. It may not help the conference overall record though.

Also, there are 2 Big East matchups in round 2 (Syracuse-Marquette and Cincy-UConn) so 2 more Big East teams are going to lose this round. :) Plus, West Virginia has a tough game with Kentucky.

Agree completely. Also the Big East tournament is a big reason why they get seeded better. Any team that makes it to the finals of that ESPN love fest gets at least a two seed bump. I still think only one or no Big East teams make it to the elite eight.

Northwestern continues the Big Ten roll in the NIT by blowing out BC on BC's home floor. Led by 7 at half, and then the Cats blew it out to 20 quickly and kept them right there the rest of the way. NW is playing very well, and might just win the NIT. They could have won a game or two in the NCAA this year. Next year, they only lose Juice and have an Illinois 1st team all-state pg coming in,Sobelewski, who will be good.
Next year,NW will finally break thru, imo, and make the big dance...which will be one more team that the Hawks will have to try to leapfrog...ouch.
