Using fouls as part of defense

Using fouls as part of defense seems preposterous doesn't it? However it has been done and given the defensive problems Iowa has anything is worth a try. The idea is that you identify the weak free throw shooters on the other team. You scheme the defense to direct the ball to those poorer free throw shooters. You use your bench to basically be designated people to foul. The method reduces the three point attempts and make the weakest link beat you. It also influences the referees to quit calling fouls. I have watch Izzo do this multiple times. It is how MSU gets away with very physical play.
