USA Today: Iowa #23

I think it is just a writer for the USA Today who picked Iowa to be #23 at the beginning of the year but I don't believe this is the official USA Today preseason poll.

I like the X Factor. We wore a lot of teams down last season. They were really fatigued around the last 5 minutes or so. Fran's substitutions and combinations differed every game and made it very difficult to the opponents to prepare for.....

X-Factor: Team chemistry. Most great teams have it, but the unique factor with Iowa comes with the fact that McCaffery feels comfortable with a 10- or 11-man rotation — meaning he'll play a different mix of guys at the end of games than he did with his starters. There's a brand of selflessness and togetherness with this group to do great things. If the Hawkeyes weren't playing in a power league, an undefeated season would be in reach. Instead, this team will be tested and tested heavily. Winning down the stretch and on the road (3-8 last season) will be telling signs for this team's ceiling in March.

going to be a fun year. i really like this team as a whole, and individually. i'm still hesitant to have high expectations, esp considering the conference Iowa is in, but we'll definitely find out what they're mad of soon enough.

Absolutely agree Meat. It seems with Iowa whenever a team has high expectations they end up disappointing. Remember the last time an Iowa team had this high of expectations? The 2010 Iowa football team and we all know how that ended. When has an Iowa BB or FB team actually SUCCEEDED with lofty expectations? Always get burned. I'm just one for having to prove me wrong. Iowa is a bad road team, haven't made the NCAA for years so until they prove they can do that it's hard to believe it will change.

But man it would awesome if this team FINALLY lived up to expectations.

Wondering where your evidence is that Iowa is a bad road team. We are undefeated on the road so far this season.

And their mag picked Iowa 8th in the B1G?

This is one writer's projections of the 68 teams to make the Big Dance. He has Iowa as an (at-large) 6 seed and 23 overall. Virginia is another 6 seed. Indiana, Wisconsin, and ISU are all lower seeds in his projection.
