Urlacher, Bears Part Ways

Pretty sad for Bears fans. The guy is behind only Walter Payton and Olin Kreutz all-time in career starts for the Bears.

Bears, Urlacher Officially Part Ways « CBS Chicago

honestly didn't see this happening, at least not this year. would have thought they could have worked something out. not a bears fans, but i hate to see things like this happen. too bad the NFL doesn't have a veterans exception (doesn't the NBA have something like that?)

As a bears fan it's been fun to watch him play his career in Chicago but his injuries are starting to come more frequently. It's time to get some new blood in there and build towards the future.

This sucks! Sure he's not what he used to be, but Nick Roach isn't even there to back him up anymore. Maybe Teo will fall far enough to pick him up.

He's a shell of his former self. His legs are shot and bad knees also. He was a great Bear but he is done!

^ this

I remember how bummed I was when Singletary was done.

I think it is for the best that they part ways.

In my opinion I think this is the best scenario for the bears. He's not the player he once was and too often do we see teams holding on to players too long. Not that I want to see him leave, but I'm ready for the next man in.

The dude can't even practice. You can go one season doing that on a team, but that's about it. Sends a bad message to the new guys.

This is one reason why the Patriots have been to numerous Super bowls since 1985 and the Bears haven't. Sentimentality has no place in football. Ask Joe Montana, Brent Favre, Drew Bledsoe, Alex Smith... about it.

If Urlacher didn't want it to end this way, he should have hung up his cleats at the end of the season.

And Urlacher does decide to retire ...

I thinks it's a good thing he's retiring. Injuries have plagued him the past few years, so now he's out somewhat healthy....good luck Brian, helluva Bear.....

The way the current CBA is constructed, if you are over the age of 30, unless you are a QB, it is brutal. Take waaay less money or watch a 25 year old take your job.

Urlacher had an amazing career and as a Bears fan I appreciated what he did for the organization. That said, as a fan I'm glad they didn't resign him. Far to often I see franchise sign or resign allstars based on who they once were rather than what they have become. Brian isn't the player he was before and while I hated the thought of letting him go, I hate the thought of shelling out money that could be used elsewhere to keep him on a roster. Great career and hope to see him in the Hall of Fame.
