Urban Meyer played his backup qb in 7 games...

before today from what the announcers said. A freshman backup getting playing time and the announcer said he had 25 pass attempts in a game earlier maybe against Army.

That is one think I think KF has lacked over the years is getting many of his backups playing time. When KF keeps games closer than they should be he doesnt feel comfortable putting in backups.

It may very well hurt the lbkr position next year. And Weigers hasnt had much time to throw in games when you are one injury away from needing backups.

We probably had more young wide receivers that could have used more snaps and targets.

I have always thought that to be one drawback of KF games. Close, and backups never see the field. At least a lot of underclassmen saw 10+ minutes yesterday.

I think it's pretty simple: our depth just isn't that good. Then again, I think a team should get their backup QB into games on a semi-routine basis. It gets the back-up into the flow of the game "just in case", and it allows the starter to get sideline view of the flow, as well.

KF just seems to dislike that concept.

Iowa rarely wins comfortably enough to be able to put in the backup QB. Ohio State often destroys their opponents so the game is usually over by the end of the 3rd quarter. Their backup has also played a couple of times where Barrett got dinged up and had to leave the field.

Agreed. I also think he should get some experience for the linebackers, etc. as well. It absolutely would not hurt to get these guys meaningful experience. KF might also realize that there are guys that just simply come to play on game day, and they perform when given the chance(gamers). Look at Geno Stone. He's going to be good, only a freshman. Hankins holds his own out there as well as just a freshman.

kirk ferentz can't afford to play backups...ESPECIALLY AT QB because his philosophy is slow, methodical, grind it out, limit the possessions for both teams, clock and field management football. That is an over arching flaw to kirk's philosophy. it's old and outdated, now.
