Unrealistic Expectations from the beginning

Micah Hyde has been a liability all season long. He is young and will be a good player, but he isn't there yet.

Sean Prater is more of the same, except not as young.

But in reality this is the issue - we have no more injuries in our LB unit and we have two true freshman starting. That is because this has been a horribly weak unit from the outset. It also appears that Hunter benefited greatly from being able to be the 3rd best linebacker, but when it is up to him to be the best, he has been underwhelming.

The D Line has been fine.

I am disappointed, but after the KF brain fart against Wisconsin, I made a decision to no longer let the Hawks ruin my weekends. So I'll go to the game next week and get to pay a lot less for the ticket.

Why were the expectations unrealistic? We had two question marks at the beginning of the season. Oline and LB. One of the turned out fine. The other didn't on account of injury. We had every reason in the world to have high expectations. Unfortunately the coaching staff got in the way.

Bruce,

I get you think the Hawks were a "brilliant disguise" this year, but if you think we shouldn't have won ever game we have played, you are wrong. Arizona (special teams), Wisconsin (special teams) and NW (moronic game plan). All games should have been won. The expectations were realistic...we just didn't execute and our coaching wasn't up to past seasons.

The LB's was not fine when it was healthy. This is the weakest LB unit we've had in the modern KF era HANDS DOWN. You need great LB's to play this scheme, END OF STORY.

Tarp and Nielsen were just fine for the most part. They weren't Angerer and Edds but not horrendous either. Unfortunately Tarp was MIA for a good part of the season and now Nielsen is gone. I think had we had Nielsen/Tarp/Hunter all season long we would have been in fine shape.

As has been pointed out, we scored 35 against Indiana and NW. With a senior QB and an experienced receiving corps, a solid O-line, and a RB who has run well against just about everybody (AND playing against a team who can't stop the run game).

Our expectations were perfectly realistic.

if you say iowa was a lock to play in the NC game or win it at the beginning of the year- then yes they were unrealistic. the NC is a result of taking care of business and getting the breaks to go your way when you need them.

to think this team shouldn't be playing for a BCS game at the end of November is absurd. with that said, the margin for error in major college football can be razor thin- and we've not been on the right side of that this year. with 3 losses, they are on the cusp if not already over the edge of underachieving for the year IMO.

There is no doubt that we should have won each game. But I do think our LB unit stinks. And our secondary has been underwhelming at best.

last year we barely beat UNI, didn't dominate Arkansas St, scraped by UM, beat MSU on the last play, got scared by Indiana, and lost to Northwestern. From that team we lost an NFL starting quality tight end, 3 starting offensive lineman, 2 NFL quality starting linebackers, and a first round cornerback, yet we were supposed to make a big leap and contend for the Title? REALLY?
The manner in which we lost the 3 games has been very disappointing. However, the fact that we would lose gameS this year should have been easy to see coming. Given last year's results and the losses, losing 3-4 games and winning a bowl should not be viewed as a huge letdown except by those who were guzzling the Kool-Aid.

13-0 = unrealistic

B10 championship = realistic

To many future NFL players on this roster to be 7-3.

It is what it is and I hope they can get off the mat but the disappointment is understandable and it should be there. NFL loaded rosters don't happen often at Iowa and they need to make them count when it matters. They haven't do so.

can't argue this from my opinion
