Unless it is Iowa Wrestling, it is a good ceiling, but not a great one

Gable broke that the glass ceiling and kept it there. His successors, although not as dominant as him, have the history of an elite program behind them.

All the other programs have flirted with top end success, but just have not been able to put it all together in a single season (or consistently enough very good to great seasons that increase the odds for Top end success.....a hefty supply of conference titles and winning the big one).

I don't know, anymore maybe it is just about enjoying the ride and knowing the rollercoaster is going to be more up and down for us until we put it all together. If it ever does happen, boy it is going to feel very good when it does.

The day the Iowa football team finally has an offense complement it's defense and special teams.
The day the Iowa Basketball team has the defense to complement it's offense...and has the elite guard play to make a serious run in the post season. We need to keep an eye on this though this year...maybe some promise showing defensively.

The day we have no serious injuries to key players in any of our programs in that special year.

I listened to a lot of call in shows tonight. Iowa gets what is can out of its 2 and 3 star athletes, but just so hard to beat the top teams with lesser athleticism and not having exceptional coaching on game day.

But, we are not the kid/program to be picked last at kickball. We do have our moments against the big boys and occasionally beat them. We also are not so good that the small fish come up and bite us far to frequently.

This is what our programs are right now outside of the Wrestling Program. Good, but not great. The only way things go up from here is with changes and changes you hope work out for the best. But, change at Iowa is a hamstrung process that keeps us floating well above water and you see the land, but missing the boat to fantasy island. The programs paddle their way to shore, only for the tide to suck them back out. You admire the work ethic, but the tires spin. The carrot dangling from the string.

Such is the highs and lows of being an Iowa fan. But, at the end of the day, it is still great to be an Iowa fan and have that few hours of distraction from other less appealing things in life. But, it sure would be nice to have a modern offensive would it not?
