University of Iowa Athletics/Drug Test Policy

It is my understanding from articles I've read, that we have one of the strictest drug testing policies in the Big10. With that being said, Mims was stated in a recent Gazette article that 1 strike doesn't get you removed from the team. It's a 3 strike policy. So from this, I'm going to assume Jewel either left on his own, or he's failed multiple drug tests. If that's the case, then I'm ok with him getting the boot, and it makes the pill a little easier to swallow. Same goes for anyone else that is asked to leave the program.

I just have a hard time believing that the AD and KF would boot anyone from this team for failing ONE drug test. Unless other strikes are against that player for unrelated off-field transgressions.

Why do you think, based on Jewel's comments that he's stating he's off the team rather than hearing the rumors and basically making fun of people?

Keep in mind Jewel already had a "strike" against him with an alcohol situation.

He very well could be. We'll never know if it is the case and he is off the team. If it was drug related, those records are confidential. I'm just trying to say, that people should be careful in getting to carried away with the rumor mill. One failed drug test doesn't get your removed from the team according to Fred Mims. The rumors may end up being true, but I'll bet it's not because they failed ONE drug test.
