UNC has a B1G offer

More smoke about this, starting to wonder if it isn't real. The schools mentioned would expand the BTN all along the east coast and make the conference a ton of money.

My only question is what happens to Duke? The fact that they have failed to invest much in their football program could cost them.

So UNC, UVA, Duke and GT are next? There goes Notre Dame's ACC deal. I'd have to expect that Notre Dame and Boston College would be next.

I'll add that I don't think that ultimately they stop at 20.

With Notre Dame, the BTN suddenly becomes a nationwide network, and a cash cow unlike any other.

Look at all the schools in the region who are not being invited... this is becoming an athletic conference for Prestigious universities in a new footprint not prestigious athletic departments.

I do not think that the B1G has any interest in competing against the SEC on the football field, or in recruiting wars. I think the B1G wants to create an environment where simply winning the B1G is important enough and laugh all the way to the bank.

You nailed it, the B1G cannot compete with the SEC on a level playing field no matter what they do. I think if Delany had his way he would partner with the Pac12 and make the Rose Bowl a NC semi final game forcing the Big12 and SEC to meet in the Sugar/Fiesta/Cotton for the right to play the winner.

I think they are likely shooting for 20, heck maybe even more as you say. I think the end game is to lock down the midwest, and the east coast. They will go after ND one more time after the ACC breakup, and then ND will literally have 3 options: SEC, Big 12, or BIG. With ND ego, no way they opt to join anything other than the most prestigious network of schools academically. The Big 12 and SEC would like like high schools in comparison.

Just get rid of conferences and let teams set their own schedules for football and MBB.

So tired of this crap.

I think Delaney is going to get his way.

The PAC-12 is an after thought in 75% of the country. But it's a pretty amazing conference both athletically and academically. Is it hard to imagine them becoming affiliated with the b1G as a branded division? You lock up markets like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix.

Now I don't think that you are going to have teams flying across the country to play each other, I think the model here is more for old school baseball where the leagues don't play each other. But I do think that the end game for Delaney is to make the Rose Bowl either a national championship semi final, or the end game entirely.

Then you would have your playoff system without ruining the bowl system. The conference championships basically would be quarterfinal playoff games.

Let's hope the writer of article can let go of the notion that Duke/Nirth Carolina need to be together, because the B1G isn't taking the dukies.
And as for UNC, it doesn't move the needle nationally, but does open up some interesting avenues.

it does academically and in basketball, as well as providing a sizable alumni base and opening a new market. and that is the new reason for conference expansion.

Agreed on the academics and Bball. I don't know enough of the fan base to go with you there. My point was more so about the football prestige. It's just a "meh" addition IMO.
I also like the markets that will be added and am intrigued about what it may cause for the ACC conference.

The Dukies bring a lot of eyeballs to the set during basketball season. I wouldn't count them out just yet.

No way Duke is a candidate.

If the ACC falls apart Florida State will end up in the Big 12. SEC will not take them because of Florida and they do not have the academics to get into the B1G.
