TWO more years???

I listened to most of the podcast, then part about Iowa football and it is going to be a slow change.

As they said, status quo until a new president is hired and then you dont know until then how high on their list is football and the sports depts.

I firmly believe that barta and KF are not satisfied with football team progress and state of affairs but they need to throw the fans a bone and say so , say they are not satisfied, try something different than slow running backs, 3 yard passes, and conservative play calling (notice I am not dumping on the defense).

I think KF will be coach for at least two more years so it sounds like the OP has some tough fall saturdays ahead for them. I think KF will coach the 2017 season if he is not forced out but that might be KF's last year due to his own choosing.

I did not listen to the podcast but I fail to see any logical reason to keep him beyond this season.

The financials don't even make sense anymore.

I listened to Miller/Deace podcast and the logic they used to speculate 2 more years with kfootball is due to the new President decision possible playing out through the football season. Knowing that Barta is probably gone when the new President is onboard, the new AD may not have time to deal with kfootball until after the 2016 season.

But, I have a solution.

I would like to see Barta (I know, he won't do this) offer kfootball an extension after this season that will have little chance of kfootball signing it. Then, Barta could let kfootball go, retain the entire staff (at their choice) and make Parker and Davis interim Co-head coaches. This would set it up for the new AD to bring in his guy. It would allow us to see Parker and GD on their own. Now, would Barta do this to help his successor? Not likely. But if he did, he could save a bit of his legacy by helping the next guy have a better chance to fix this program sooner, rather than, later. I think the fans would appreciate something along those lines.

I said after the season that the only way change was going to happen was a march and protest on the U of I Presidents front lawn; just like the students did at Michigan. People thought I was kidding....I wasn't. And Deace in the podcast seemed to back me up, far as giving the Michigans fans credit for at least partially speeding up the change. Too bad Iowa fans aren't wired that way....it will never happen. This whole mess sucks!!!

i'd love to see who the "his guy" would be...

Another thing that will not happen but should is the fact that EVERY sportswriter in the state of Iowa should be referring to this season as being "make or break" for KF.....but we already know that they will not do this...don't we Hlas and Hardy? That idle threat will conveniently be saved for next season....delaying this nightmare yet one more gory year. Oh BTW, it won't be until after KF's departure...whenever that will be....that all the sportswriters will suddenly feel safe enough to start proclaiming how it was time for a change....as if all along they had occasionally been eluding to it. Which we know none of them have been.

It seems as though they've all written a negative article or two to go along with their articles that still defend kfootball. That way, they'll be able to say "I wrote back in 2013 or 2014 that change was needed..." Jon Miller has been the only "fan" of the bunch. Morehouse publishes plenty of "negative" stats but doesn't include much in the way of editorial opinion along with that.

It's the Iowa media. We know what that is all about.

For all that Kirk Ferentz has done for the Iowa Hawkeyes, he deserves two more years. If we're lousy these next two years, I hope he retires and rides off into the sunset. Of course, I hope he has a great season or two and then rides off into the sunset.

Of course, we live in an instant gratification, disposable culture, so I'm sure many would disagree with me.

That's just it he was the rare coach who had control of his own fate and he eff'd it all up. Go back and look at the schedule(s) for the last 5 years if anything this program should be in autopilot for at least 7 or 8 victories a year. And the fact that it isn't; will probably cost him his job, hurt his legacy and most importantly he will not be able to pass this on to his son.

KF was very fortunate to have Norm Parker on his staff. Norm was the backbone to this program and it is no coincidence the program began its decline when Norm got sick. Norm Park is who should be given the credit for Iowa's success. He let KF take all the credit.

If KF does not win at least 7 game this year he will be gone.

Given the shift in revenue, the attendance does not figure nearly as much as people think it does. The BTN delivers a lot of cash win or lose. A new president does not guarantee a new AD nor does it guarantee a new head football coach.

Think about that as you grill out this afternoon.

You are correct and so are Miller and Deace. But season ticket purchases isn't completely irrelevant, nor will it ever be, at Iowa. Each non purchased season ticket package also represents a "forced" donation not collected. Then consider the high roller boosters that shut off the spigget because the program stinks. The University of Iowa is in the business of making money (make no mistake about that) and their main vehicle is providing an education. However, sports is also a large factor and when the BTN payment gets spread thinner and thinner due to falling donations to the athletics department, it will still resonate.

We should think about that also. Remember, there are always two sides to each burger being grilled.

Dude, that is terrible. The best you can come up with is "two sides to each burger being grilled". i expect more from a Steeler fan.:)

Instant? It's been 5 years without breaking the top25.

Theres nothing instant about it. It's been long and excruciating.

The longer he stays the bigger the whole the next guy will have to dig out of.

he does not deserve to stay at the expense of the program.

Kf made his own bed when he choose to do the whole Davis thing to set up his son.

We have a 3 time big 10 coach of the year, do you all know how rare that is? If I remember right he is one of only 3 or 4 ever (with Bo, Woody, and JoPa?). He has a contract through 2020. I also believe that he has done a good job with this program.

There is no need to be so hostile towards this coaching staff. He have had coaching stability since 1979 that few programs has enjoyed. Us as fans instead of being so hostile should use that as a selling point to potential recruits.
