TV playing a role in scheduling IU makeup?

We're coming at this from the standpoint of two schools trying to reschedule a game that had to be postponed due to issues with the gym. But I can see a couple reasons why a decision on the makeup game so far hasn't been announced:

- More issues found with Assembly Hall. (So far nothing from Indianapolis media on this beyond Glass's presser yesterday afternoon.)

- Accommodating TV. I don't recall whether ESPN or the BTN had this game. But there's certainly ca$h sitting on the table right now, contractual obligations that were made well before this season started. The Hoosiers may have a huge financial incentive to reschedule this so it fits with either of those outfits' schedule. If or when the schools hold a press conference to announce a new date, I hope one of the ink-stained wretches either in Iowa or Indiana would inquire about what role TV played in all of this.

The other possibility is that Iowa is trying to pressure the B1G to change the dates for another game on the schedule to be more fair to Iowa's players in terms of a break in games. (I LOL'd, too, when I re-read that...)

Ntohing wrong with your opinion, but why is that so humorous? Regardless of when the game is rescheduled, this late in the season, is going to be an inconvenience from a scheduling/traveling standpoint. IMO with Iowa in the hunt for winning/sharing a conference championship I'd think that Barta wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't do everything possible to see to it that were not put at a disadvantage in terms of when the game will be made up. I think its a valid point. Albeit I don't know think in the grand scheme of things that this angle has much leverage, but I definitely think its a valid concern.

Ntohing wrong with your opinion, but why is that so humorous? The fact is regardless of where the game is rescheduled at this time is going to be an inconvenience from a scheduling/traveling standpoint. I do think it's a valid concern. I'm just not sure Jim Delany shares that level of concern. Jim wants his money just as badly as the schools do...

Definitely agree with you there. I just wonder would it be different if it was one of the "elite" programs and not Iowa. Whether it's a win/lose situation I think Iowa has every right to be vocal about this as it definitely puts them at a disadvantage and has minimal consequences for an Indiana team that's basically playing for next season.

If evening TV slates are full, as they could well be this late in the season, is it possible the makeup would be on a weekday either late in the afternoon or early evening?

The game was originally scheduled for 8pm tip ESPN (I thought Vitale was on color).

Here's an article with Big Ten senior associate commissioner Mark Rudner explaining tv isn't a priority, and that taking care of both the teams needs is first and foremost.

From article...
“Obviously, the two most important parties are Indiana and Iowa,’ said Rudner, who is also the Big Ten’s television administrator. “There are a number of considerations. Television isn’t really primary in that. We need to reschedule the game according to what works best for Iowa and Indiana, and hopefully it’s on a date and time that works for ESPN. We’d work with them on the time, like we do any game.â€

There's some pretty good info in the article. But it really doesn't give much of a hint as to what the makeup date could be.

But... But.... "Television isn't really primary in that"! I think we know now the reason for the delay ... Rescheduling two other schools in another conference and moving them to a different channel with a slightly smaller footprint in terms of full national access.

If true, Iowa bumps you know who from a prime time national game. That would be funny.

Frankly, I'm starting to wonder if the league isn't telling all parties involved to just hold off until everyone knows 100% that the game will have impact in standings/seedings, and just using Monday 3/10 as "default" date.
