Trying to find a silver lining to this black cloud

Awful collapse. But Iowa played toe to toe with the #2 team in the nation in their building. This may be the kick in the pants the team needs to get a killer mentality. Remember where we were before Fran got here. I like the job he does. Get tougher mentally. The talent, the shooting is there. It's head games. The season is young.

There are a lot of different ways to approach this loss.

I don't know what he has tried.

1. You can say very little to nothing about it and move on.
2. Dissect all the plays and learn from the good and the bad.
3. Make practice the next practice a living hell.
4. Take the blame as the coach.

We have known for some time that we struggle to close games even with a large lead. We have failed to close out 3 games this year alone. There were some positives despite the factors that contributed to a loss. Fran and staff just need to go back to the drawing board with end of half and end of game situations. I would suggest running normal offense instead of this isolate with the PG stuff. Just move on as we have plenty more big games ahead.

Stinks to lose but there was no shame in losing a 1 pt game on the road against the number 2 team in the country we lead all but 39 seconds. I expected to get beat by 15 points and never thought this would go down to the wire. I was much more disappointed in last year's meltdown.

This is ISU's flagship program and you can tell by their reaction how much this meant. I was surprised at the number and level of spiteful comments and troll posts on various message boards. Were they not the favorites and number 2 team? Did they not claim that our program is garbage but it took a miracle/gifts to beat us? It kind of seems like our success on the football field must have really got to them. Hope there season lives up to all it needs to be for them as they need it.

I would be curious, though, how many double digit leads Iowa has blown the past few years?

The flip side, how many double digit deficits ISU has overcome in the past few years?

#2 in the country is a funny one.

Calling all Ronnie Lester's, where are you? And please come to Iowa....With just 1 we don't lose this game...

Here is your silver lining..."desmond king is leaning towards returning for his senior season" -joe schad

There are so many silver linings in that game that the weight in silver would sink a ship... but don't let it cloud your rush to judgement that is going to look silly in February.

Silver lining is Iowa just went into one of the toughest venues in college basketball and should have won.

Dark cloud is the SHOULD HAVE WON.

Really ****** off at this team and staff right now. Not calling for people to be fired or benched but we are too far into Fran's tenure for this crap.

It's basketball - you have a 50/50 shot of winning and losing every game...loses like this happen to Izzo and Coach K every year, they are going to happen to Fran every year. A loss like that has nothing to do with how far we are in Fran's tenure.

F the silver lining. This isn't Iowa state football. They did what they needed to do to get up by 14 at half and got into 20 in the second half. Up by six with a minute. Inbound the ball, hold onto the ball and play the free throw game for a minute. Finish the game. Win the game.

At least a dozen last year. I've watched all of the ISU games I can on TV. It's their MO. They truly are the "comeback kids".

On a different note, I think next year's game will be interesting. With Niang, Nader, Long and McKay all seniors, (and I believe Morris will declare for the NBA), their cupboard will be bare next year. And ours will be filled with better, yet untested, athletes.

I never really saw us playing toe to toe with them. I saw us absolutely taking them to the woodshed in the first half and then them curb stomping us in the second half. At no time did I ever feel that I was watching two even teams. It was more which team had the lesser monumental collapse.

I saw uthoff dominating their all American, from everywhere on the court, I saw jok lighting it up, even woody was hitting a few. We blew it
