Tristan Wirfs - Week 2

You have to applaud the Bucs for going with Wirfs. It's not too often a guy can come in and play against some really good pass rushers the first two weeks and he doesn't give up a sack. He's going to settle in too. Wirfs was a steal...and should have been in the first 5 picks of the draft.

I can’t help but wonder what the grades have been for the other 3 guys who were picked at OT before Tristan. Is PFF public info or subscription?

I suspect the roadblock to Wirfs going higher was that Jackson started at LT most of the games during Wirfs' tenure (I think Wirfs started at LT maybe 4-5 games while Jackson was injured in 2019) and scouts questioned whether Wirfs was even the best tackle on Iowa's roster.

Apparently you didn't watch the Michigan or Penn State games that Jackson played when he came back from injury. Trust me, no scout was wondering if Jackson was the best tackle on our team. If he was, he would have gone ahead of Wirfs in the first round and would have had agents and scouts telling him to come out. I'm sure he got a projection from the NFL people too...all juniors with potential to play on Sundays do. Yet somehow he's still at Iowa.

Well not to give Tampa too much credit he did just fall in their laps as the 4th tackle that hadn't been taken yet. They were smart enough to not over think it and take him though so yeah there's that. If they'd traded up for him they'd have gotten bonus points for that but he just fell right to em when he coulda/shoulda been a top 5 pick. When a glaring need and a perfect player to fill it is on the board it was almost too obvious. But then again that's when Mitchell Trubisky trades tend to happen too so nothing is a total given anymore

They actually traded up (only one spot) IIRC in order to get him. They might have been afraid San Francisco would trade with someone else who wanted Tristan. I could be wrong about that, since it was back in April, but that is what I remember.

I recall Kirk saying that the only reason that Tristan wasn't on the left is because Jackson simply couldn't adjust to playing on the right.

Yes, they did trade up one spot to get him
