Trip to Nebraska

Is I80 the best way to get to Lincoln from the Des Moines area on game day? How bad is traffic on I80 past Omaha? How much time needs to be allowed for traffic in and around Lincoln? Just looking for some suggestions. I will be meeting a buddy back in the DSM metro coming from Thanksgiving in south central Iowa and I thought about having him drive to Osceola and go into Lincoln the back way, or meeting him on the outskirts and going 80.
 
I'd say 80 is your best bet. The traffic from Omaha to Lincoln on game days sucks, and is worse for the 11AM starts.

I guess you could try highway 34, highway 2, or highway 6, but they really aren't any better. If I'm leaving from Omaha, I plan on being on the road no later than 9AM, but that is really pushing it. Earlier is much better.
 
My tip, stay in Omaha and watch at bar, Lincoln is a dreadful town. Ill be flying my Iowa Flag and eating turkey sandwiches. The Hawks are taking over this town.

So I think we can be through Omaha by around 8:30. Thought about exiting and taking hwy 6 into town the last 29 miles or so. Is this a better route? Which route is going to have more accessible parking? My buddy and I are capable of walking a decent distance, but thought we wanted to be there early enough so look around. Thank you for the response!
