Transfers: Where they are now

Thought I'd look back at the ex Hawkeyes and see how they are doing for their new teams.

Cully Payne

Well Cully isn't shooting very well that is for sure. He has started the season 0-10 from the field, but perfect at the strip 7-7. Looks like he must be playing quite a bit for Loyola as he has the 4th most minutes for the Ramblers. They are sitting 2-0 on the season after beating Toledo and Rockhurst *that's a college? Sounds like a preschool for wealthy families on the east coast*.

Moving on...

Aaron Fuller

Our only viable scoring threat in Lick's last year also isn't having the best season at USC. Averaging 12 minutes a game and 4.0 p.p.g. But he is forth on the Trojans in rebounding, and when you are only averaging 12 minutes a game, that's pretty good.

Anthony Hubbard

This one kinda counts. He played in the PTL for the Hawkeyes so I am gonna count it. He is the only transfer that I have been able to find that is actually playing well for his new team. Hubbard is averaging 15.7 p.p.g and 9.3 rebounds a game. That is insane for a 6'6 sg/sf. But he is also averaging 4.7 turnovers a game which, isn't so hot. Looking back I think he would of made Iowa quite a bit better last year, but I don't know if we would of recruits we did if he was here. So it obviously worked out for both parties. Currently Morgan State is 1-2 on the young season and plays South Carolina tonight.

Any other transfers out there that I am missing?

To add to your post, Anthony Tucker is playing his final year at Moorhead and has had a very solid 2 game stretch:

74 minutes, 12-20 FG, 9-11 3pt, 14-15 FT, 18 REB, 13 Assists, 7 TO, 47 points in 2 games.

Thanks HH. I knew I was missing someone. I should look up cougill and see how his year is going up in Wisconsin

Branden Stubbs is playing this year at Central College. They have played one game. He has logged 39 minutes, 6-13 FG, 9-9 FT, 4 REB, 8 Assists, 3 Steals, 21 pts as he leads all scorers.

Anyone notice how short this list is?

It's been a long time since Iowa has had a coach retain players like this. Speaks to how good a coach he is as it says that he has clearly defined a role for everyone and they are happy filling that role to help the team win. Unlike Lick and captain Kirk who just play the oldest guy/whoever they have left.

Not throwing stones or anything here, but it would have been interesting to see a thread called "Where are they now: Those that never qualified" going back a few years. It was funny to see when these guys didn't qualify and how it was such a loss for the program, but you never heard of them after they landed places.

For those of you who opened this thread (like me) hoping to find easily digestible stats, here's a quick list of recent Iowa transfers, near misses, and never wases:

Cully Payne, Loyola: 4.0 ppg, 5.0 apg, 2.7 rbs, 2.0 tpg
Aaron Fuller, USC: 4.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg
Anthony Hubbard, Morgan state: 15.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.3 apg
Ben Brust, Wisconsin: 10.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.0 tpg
Cody Larson, Florida: Left team this summer
Chanse Creekmur, Arizona State: Left team this spring
Kale Abrahamson, Northwestern: 7.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg
Cezar Guerrero, Oklahoma State: Transferred to Fresno this spring
Brennan Cougill, Wisconsin-Green Bay: 13.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg
Pierre Jackson, Baylor: 20.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.8 apg
Anthony Tucker, Moorhead: 21.3 ppg, 7.7 rbs, 5.3 apg

I'm actually happy for these guys. Most went to a place that was a better fit and I think for the most part we got a player in return that was better for us.

Yeah and the guy I would want, PJ, was never really close to coming to Iowa...nothing lost otherwise.
