Transcript: Kirk Ferentz Outback Bowl Press Conference 12-27

Loved hearing DJ Johnson will certainly play in this game. I was excited for him coming into this year. Has he even suited up for many games? I’m not even sure what number he wears.

Yes KF, don't be doing online dating or blind dates.
You could end up with a brick thrower. Right Rob?
Although I do have to admit, some of the online stuff isn't to bad, there seem to be a few on here that are pretty decent people.

Would also be nice to see Tyrone Tracy get some reps in the game.

Still kind of bummed that nobody will explain the Nixon situation and nobody in the media will ask the difficult questions. I understand he didn’t play due to academics, but being that the semester is over and the 4 game redshirt rule exists why in the world can’t he at the very least suit up for this game? Something more to that story.

KF said before the season that Nixon wasn't going to play in '18.

It's still '18.
They said they weren’t going to play him in games to get acclimated to academics. Being that the semester is over and guys can play in one game without burning a redshirt, it would have been worth a reporter actually asking why he wasn’t going to play in this game. Maybe he is taking winter classes to allow for a lighter workload in upcoming semesters. We won’t know because nobody asked.

Why do you think that's a difficult question? Seems like a pretty easy to ask question to me.

My line of thinking on it is this- The staff told him, "Hey, you really need to get your academics in order if you're going to play, and stay here most importantly. Since your grades aren't where they need to be, you don't get to see the field this year. You need your main focus to be in the classroom this season and if all goes well this year then we'll look at getting you on the field."

I think it's basically a punishment for not keeping his academics in order, but they still want him to get practice experience and be working out with the team. Plus, it's probably not fair to the other players whose grades are in line if they let him play. It may set a bad precedent.

He’s either eligible or he isn’t. But we don’t know that he isn’t.

I knew it!!

While you are at it can you finally tell us where Hoffa is buried?;)

I did not realize that Iowa did not follow it's normal bowl schedule last year in New York and instead stayed for a shorter time than normal. Although I guess that makes sense if you are going somewhere awful.
