Let's not act like he's underpaid.

He comes in tied for 13th with Harbaugh and Franklin (Harbaugh actually beats Franklin and Ferentz out by $50K).

The next coach down is Fat Titzgerald at $5.75M

I cringe a little bit at Mel Tucker. One good year and 2 years of solid recruiting and all of a sudden MSU is just all in...this has disaster written all over it.
Agree with your observation.
I believe the bulk of his contract is being paid for by 2 MSU tech grads (2003/04?) who hit it big and had the $$ to throw at him.

Poor Nick Saban loses 1 national championship game and gets bumped down to #3.

Fitz's salary isn't disclosed, but the rumor I heard was that he gets some formula for average of the top handful in the B1G so he doesn't have to renegotiate it every time the market moves. Of course it's just a rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if he makes more than $5.75 million.

Could look like fool's gold in a couple of years. I'm not sold on Tucker just yet...one season does not a career make.

Titz got an updated 10 year new deal in 2020, and his federal tax returns showed he made $5.4 million that year. I wouldn't think he's on a progressive scale getting bigger the longer he goes. I'm pretty sure unless he rattles off another B1G west title or goes to a couple really good bowls in a row that they'll be upping his money anytime soon.

Remind me, what is his head to head record against Kurt.

Fun fact...I've been to 6 games at home vs Northwestern in my entire and we lost every one of 'em. And yes, I'm going to be there this year.

I was at the 2005 Northwestern game in Evanston. Iowa was up 13 with 5:26 (don't quote me on the time) left AND the ball. We lost by 1. It was the worst game ever. Until 2008.

They concussed Shonn in 2008. We had a great team that year and lost. It was the worst game ever. Until 2009.

2008 and 2009 were back to back home games in IC due to some scheduling quirk from a conference change or something. Iowa was ranked very high at the time, maybe top 5. People were talking about O'Keefe going to the NFL if we won out. Stanzi suffered a high ankle sprain on a Corey Wooten defense of a naked bootleg. Just got pummeled. It was like the kid was in our huddle. Iowa lost that game as well. It was the worst game ever.

2010 was a cold, windy day in Evanston. Iowa had huge expectations going into the season, but had failed to live up to the hype. Stanzi threw a bunch of deep balls into that heavy wind, pretty much all of which got picked off. It was a bad game, but after attending every Iowa-Northwestern over a several year stretch I was willing to accept that loss because Northwestern just has a better program than Iowa. That game was the one that made me snap and buy Northwestern season tickets bince I lived close enough to walk to the stadium and I decided I was done trekking to IC every week. We had some pretty dark days not long thereafter.

How in the world did you get your hands on Fitz's federal tax returns?

Where has our offense rated in the past ten years. I dont know but let’s just guess somewhere between 50th to 70th?? This warrants a raise and extension??? Did you say 13th highest paid coach?? WTF? Eighteen years since claiming a B1G title??? He is a good coach and solid for winning 7.5 to 8 games a year, but 13th highest paid coach in college football? I know he was in the top ten for many years.

Hopefully this will be the year we kick the damn door down and win the division and a Big Ten Title. We are way over due considering where he falls on the pay scale.

In my opinion The 13th highest paid coach should win a conference title once in awhile. Once in eighteen years does not qualify as once in awhile. I would say at a minimum once every six to seven years would be fair results for the pay scale.

Yeah, does make ya wonder. On the other hand, of all the coaches I saw interviewed on BTN during Media Days, I was most impressed with Tucker. Seems like the real deal...and if your rivals are Michigan & Ohio State, you can't afford to be half-assed.

Definitely not underpaid - maybe a little over paid but that happens with everyone who has 23 years at one job. I have no problem with a longevity bonus.... that said, he's worth a whole hell of a lot more to the school then what they pay him. Both statements can be true.

Never said they should. Not sure where you’re going with that.
Not going anywhere. I'm a hopeless analyzer by nature. You mentioned a west championship or big bowl games so I was wondering why you thought that. Being some older than you, the fact NW does as well as it does even w/o those 2 is a huge deal. Football mean less at NW than Iowa. Football means less at Iowa than OSU for example. I just like to pick people's brains and sometimes you make assumptions about motivations like for example my comment about a donor. It was an honest question.

I think they would be happy if NW consistently averaged average in the west or slightly better than. The guy does a hell of a job though Hawk fans don't like him. I like him because in my coaching days before my knew was destroyed, I made a great career (OK youth through HS) out of driving big boys nuts with lesser talent which is exactly what Fitz does. He's in Hawk fans head (s). I admire that though he's in my head as well. Brohm is easy to figure out. He passes underneath Iowa's bend doen't break 2ndary to death and Iowa does't adapt. Fitz on the other hand uses a 145 pounder to take a 170 pounder to the mat.
