TN's starters did it all - needed to get them in foul trouble

Looking at the stat sheet maybe the hawks should have been driving to the hoop all nite last nite and force TN players to make more fouls.

I think TN had 4 bench points and very few bench minutes
 
That's exactly what I was saying last night, drive and get the rim, get fouled, White & others had several chances, but decided to pass it up...(still scratching my head)
 
Thats what Tenn did and look how it worked out for them.... 24-14 foul discrepancy. Iowa played too much finesse basketball against a bruiser of a team.
 
Here's a metaphor for you: it's like playing red rover (red rover, red rover send *** on over) where Tennessee's post defense was like 7th graders in strength and Iowa's post offense was like 3rd graders in strength. Also, Iowa, as a team, IMO, was more agile than Tennessee in the post. Easier for an Iowa offender to dribble around Tennessee in the post than power over them in the post (as Oleseni realized).

Refs were allowing TENN to play physical, not Iowa...when Iowa did same thing TENN was getting away with they got ticky tack fouls.

Exactly. The players knew that the game wasn't called fairly, and you could see their frustration, build.
I can't think of an NCAA Tournament loss, off of the top of my head, where the officials had so much of an impact.
NW State loss, I barely read a peep about officiating. That four-letter school in a western state wasn't about officiating.
This game was about the officials greatly affecting how Iowa could play.
Basabe barely broke a sweat and he fouled out.
I'm sorry, the way the lines moved so quickly in Vegas, and then to see the game was officiated last night??!!

If the referees really wanted to, they could make Cal Poly the National Champions.
 
Their big guy was a bull in a China shop and yet Basabe got a ton of fouls in virtually no time (that moving screen off the handoff was possibly the worst call of the year). Ultimately we lost because we never got a good run going, we just matched and as we have seen all year, when we just match, we lose in the end because we don't have a baller who can make a clutch play with the game on the line. Damn nice game by Woodbury and Jok was lights out shooting. Those mitigate my anger somewhat.

Agreed, but I'll add that we never had the run in the second half after they answered us in the first. We came out of the gates running but I think the shot they hit at the buzzer in the first half changed the game entirely.

Yeah, maybe. I hate to go back to this well, but the 11-4 foul differential in the first half was probably a big part of why we didn't build a bigger cushion.
 
Bret Hart had a better chance of winning against Shawn Michaels in Montreal, than Iowa had against Tennessee, last night, due to the officiating.

Some know, that I've lived in Tennessee, since 2000. I follow UT. I have UT gear.
The center is Jarnell Stokes. He's a borderline-NBA player, and was a high-heralded recruit from high school, but he was getting calls, as if he was an NBA veteran, last night.
Even Tennessee fans on the radio, couldn't believe the calls Stokes (and the team) were getting last night, and they aren't sold on Stokes as a solid big guy.

Great teams can overcome bad officiating. Very good teams cannot. We were just a very good team.

Very good? 20 wins is "very good"? Losing 7 of last 8 is "very good"?

Some of you are wondering what the team will look like next year without Marble, well you just saw it tonight.
