TN guard Jones NOT asking for release

Just checked out the TN site and their 4 star PG Chris Jones met with Martin and is solid on his commit to TN. Just speculating, but is this the spot Martin may have offered to Washpun? Washpun indicated he expected to hear from Martin in a couple of days. Not a follower of TN, but I assume they return some players and have a 4 star PG signed for the upcoming season.

Their roster has 9 guards. 3 of which are seniors. Not sure whether they are 1s or 2s. This is what therer 11'-12' backcourt would look like with Jones staying comitted and no one transferring or leaving.

I just think people put way too much stock in the concept of playing time. If players were really all that concerned with playing time, then why do all the highly ranked players go to the most stocked schools.

We are in the age of LaBron going to Miami and Carmelo going to New York. Everyone wants to be on a stacked team, because stacked teams win.

So now Washpun, a kid who we were told wanted nothing more than to be a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes, is stringing us along hoping for a better offer. Wow, how far have we fallen! We're a back up plan for all these kids.

Do you have any idea when WW was offered by Iowa?

Big difference between Martin offering him while at Mid Majorville in Springfield, MO vs. coming up with an offer at a BCS school with 4 and 5 star kids knocking on your door. If he doesn't get a TN offer and spurns Iowa for Missouri State, then he's not interested in playing ball at the highest level possible, which should be the goal of every competitive athlete. He has never met Lusk, so there is no relationship there.

I guess my point is if it is true that he truly wanted to be a Hawkeye, and we have indeed offered him a place on the team, you would think that he would have jumped at the chance and accepted the offer immediately. Now, we are told he is re-accessing his options.

Great point. If he wanted to be a Hawkeye and they offer and he hasn't committed yet, that doesn't bode well. He's been waiting for the Tennessee offer.

If he chooses Iowa over Tennessee, then I guess that means Fran is beating BCS schools for recruits, right?

IMO, Washpun is a nice player with potential, but there are lots of kids that fall into this category out there. Frustrating that we seem to be striking out with virtually all of our guard prospects, but in the same breath, if he doesn't want to be here, then so be it. As Cartwright proved, there are dudes out there flying under the radar that can contribute. A Justin Johnson our Chauncey Leslie type player would help and I assume (hope) the staff has a contingency plan.

With a TN offer, it seems unlikely he signs with Iowa.

I know there's not much going on now Hawkeye-wise, but really...why obsess over all these kids? When the dust settles, Iowa will have some new basketball players next season. They may not be named Cezar or Wes or Pierre of Eli or whatever and, if I may adapt a quote from the great AAU Coach Rhett Butler, "Frankly, my fellow Hawkeye fans, I don't give a damn."

Coach Fran will find some players somewhere, and I'll be happy to see him and his staff coach them to success.

I remember last year fans were dying for Anthony Salter...he had a bad visit, chose Hawaii, and transferred at the semester...and is probably not playing ball now.

Iowa bb will survive with or without Eli Carter. If he comes on board, fine, but Iowa bb is bigger than any one kid.

Definitely a guard heavy roster. <Maybe ours looks that way too if Gatens and Ogelsby are listed as guards, but nowhere near 6 with a highly touted recruit from TN coming in and 3 other offers out to guards. I am sure the offers were made by Pearl and have to be confirmed by Martin, but there is a story on the TN site about a guard in Georgia being on the radar.
