I know that I'm preaching to the choir here but, we need to start laying the wood to Northwestern again- no one will ever take us seriously if we can't regularly beat the Northwesterns of the world. Granted they are not the same team they were in the Fry era, but come on. I realize that we have a tendency to play up or down to our competition but to constantly be losing to Northwestern even in a very good year like last year will prevent Iowa from being considered in the top tier of the conference. Most of us probably consider Iowa as on par with OSU and PSU, I do- but the perception out in the rest of the football world will use losses to teams like Northwestern against us. OSU almost never loses to them, PSU usually beats them pretty easily. My argument is that we have to start doing the same. My goal is not to denigrate Northwestern because they are a vastly superior team compared to 20 years ago but they are not at at our level- or are they?
