I love Iowa sports as much as anyone and support any player that wears the Black and Gold-- be it field hockey or club crew. The bottom line is that men's hoops and football turn the lights on for all the other sports and put the University of Iowa in the national conversation, which helps in everything from athletic recruiting to application rates. Iowa simply cannot afford to have the utterly abysmal situation that is going on with the men's basketball program. It seems like every day there is an article here or there with quotes from Barta pledging his support for Lick. Why doesn't Barta just be quiet? This daily stand behind your man routine wreaks of inexperience. The basketball program is TERRIBLE right now. Barta's daily comments puffing how Little Lick and every other player will soon be a year older and year better and that is supposed to make everyone feel better is amateur stuff, especially given the talent level we have. Bottom line here is Barta needs to start acting like a big time D1 AD and (1) be quiet and (2) do whats right for the programs. Iowa has a toxic hoops program right now and it needs a change. If Gary wants to do a Tammy Wynette impersonation every night then maybe he needs to take a hike as well. Its not like he brought in Kirk Ferentz.
