Time for Polasek to earn his stripes....

On the Hawk Central podcasts this summer, they had a period where they had every assistant coach from the team on the podcast. On the one featuring Tim Polasek, he said that he has the scout for Wisky and he's spent the entire offseason going thru the last 5 or so years of Iowa/Wisconsin games to come up with a scout/game plan for this year.

While he's a pretty animated dude, he's also a pretty sharp cat. I'm hoping that with him being this involved in the Wisky game planning for this year, that we see it paying some real dividends.

If nothing else, it can't be worse, offensively, than it was last year.....

He was an OC at ND before he came on. I think he's a pretty darn bright mind. One could argue to go from an OC at that powerhouse to a position coach at D1 could be a step down. But I'm glad we have him. He has the Oline pass protecting better than they ever did last yr so far. If they could get the running game going.....

That was North Dakota State, not North Dakota.

I agree with your sentiment, but the best game plan in the world won’t help if Stanley can’t make accurate passes and stop throwing stupid ones. We’re not going to have the luxury of running the ball like we did with the first two JV teams we played. Neither NIU nor ISU are P5 worthy teams, let alone top 10 material.

If Stanley unf*cks himself between now and then Iowa has a chance to keep it close. If not, welcome to 0-1 in B1G. Mansell NEEDS to get lots of minutes against UNI; I have a feeling we’re going to need a change sooner than later unless something miraculous happens.

Do not try to out bully them. It won't work. It hasn't since Shonn Greene ran over them and that was a long time ago. If we run slow developing short side stretch they will come down the line of scrimmage from the backside and blow it up. I would love to trap block them straight up the gut but that's not a staple of our offense. Maybe some misdirection counter like we frequently did in 2015. Do our backs have the patience to let that first wave get out of position?

What a classless comment about Stanley. I guess you must have been perfect at all aspects of life up to this very moment - NOT. Fryowa = jerk.

Gotta be pass-first. Which is why whatever has been going on with Stanley needs to get fixed aysapp.

Yes, gotta find those soft spots downfield. Edwards and that Vanden Bosch from your neck of the woods can stay with Fant and TJ so it probably won't be Ohio State 2.0.

Pretty Sharp Cat.....

I like that.....

We owe them for last year. They were fortunate to catch us after the Ohio State Slaughter. That one took its toll on the team. We still probably would not have won but could have made the game a bit less embarrassing.....

Van Ginkel?

Vanden Bosch was a Husker that retired from the NFL about 6, 8 years ago...

Excellent analysis...except that Iowa State beat two top five teams last year and had the nucleus of that team back this year...especially on defense. Calling them a JV team is pretty ridiculous. Whether you like it or not, Campbell has that program on the upswing and they will be a tough out for most of the top B12 teams. I wouldn't exactly call NIU a JV team either...since they were 4-1 against the B10 over the past 5 years coming in and had a veteran defensive team.

Stanley's has struggled and has been horribly inconsistent. That being said, sometimes it takes a few games to get comfortable. My god, if Ricky Stanzi hadn't had the 2009 defense (a great one), we may have been 4-4 heading into that Michigan State game that year where 7 got 6. Stanzi was throwing pick sixes faster than Trump goes through porn stars. Say what you will about him unf*$king himself, but the one thing he hasn't done is turn it over at an alarming clip. I think he gets it going.

That TCU win last year was a helluva defensive effort. The Oklahoma game, probably more on the offense. They could potentially bring a little grit to what has been a gunslinger conference the last decade or so.
