The Hawkeye Orange Bowl season will be 10 years old this fall. Jesus H. Wegher-bomb. Pre drug-house DJK. AmeriStanzi. That were a great year.

The gap of not playing Illinois at Kinnick was even larger, no games between 2007 and 2015.The best part is Iowa played a real Big Ten Schedule that year
@PSU
Mich
@Wisc
@MSU
Indy
NW
@OSU
Minn
2009 was also the beginning of a bizarre 5-year gap where Iowa did not play Illinois from 2009-2013.
Can you imagine if Iowa would have playing in the current east-west divisional setup in 2009-2010? What if Iowa had played ILL, MD, Pur, Neb instead of Ariz, Mich, MSU, OSU? Would the 2009 season had been as magical? Would the 2010 season had been so unlucky? Of course Nebraska was pretty decent in 2009-2010. It all might depend on whether Stanzi still gets hurt in the 2009 alternate reality. If Stanzi is hurt when Iowa plays Nebraska on Black Friday, Nebraska probably ends up winning the West division and plays OSU in the 2009 CCG. Iowa probably still finishes 10-2 with a win over PSU, but the BCS bowls go to OSU and Neb, and Iowa ends up in the Capitol One (Citrus) Bowl, and wins. Iowa finishes 11-2
In 2010, Iowa does not play Arizona in OOC, so does not blow an early season game in desert. If they still have late game collapses against Wisc and NW, they would go into the Neb game with a 9-2 record, which Iowa loses in a late game collapse. Iowa finishes 9-3 behind Wisc and Nebraska in the West. Iowa still plays Missouri in the Insight bowl, and wins, finishing 10-3.

It was similiar to, but even longer than, our gap of not playing at Camp Randall.
Illinois playing in Iowa City was a happening in the mid 1980's. Illinois fielded competitive teams, there was some chippiness to the games, and there was a strong social element with the students. Even then, many U of Iowa students were from the Chicago area. Many of their high school friends who went on to Champaign would come to Iowa City and party that weekend.
And man did Illinois go from fairly good to south of terrible during that time span.
