Tim Polasek

Interesting to see the comments on Twitter about Polasek. It does not sound like he was very popular as OC at NDSU.

He should have been hired as Iowa’s OC after GD left because he has proven he can run a successful offense and Brian should have stayed at OL where he showed he can put together a good blocking group in 2015 & 2016 but Dad had other plans.
Exactly right.

I agree that Polasek has had to learn how to coach the offensive line on the job. I disagree with those who think he has done a bad job at it. Pass protection was an emphasis this year, and has gone from poor the last two seasons to one of the better years, even with a rather immobile quarterback. Run blocking hasn't been a strength with this group of linemen and clearly needs more of an emphasis at this point. If Polasek had been a seasoned offensive line coach from the start, maybe things would have gone better from the start, but it looks to me like both the offensive line and Polasek are showing solid improvement this year.

LOL if you think being an OC at a FCS school is somehow a great resume builder. Hell being Craig Bohl and Chris Klieman winning NT after NT at the FCS level as the head man netted them the Wyoming and K-State head spots. Plus the only reason they Klieman got his spots is because the guy who hired Klieman at NDSU happened to get the K-State AD position.

I agree. As we used to say, if it were easy, women and children would be doing it. In a politcaly correct world, that got changed to everyone would be doing it.
Progress is being made.
Is it fast? No. Is it fast enough? I think we will know a whole bunch next year.
Do we have a QB who finally puts it all together his Sr year? If not do they start someone else?
Do our jr wr have a breakout year in their jr year? Can we recruit that position?
Do we have an ol that puts it all together?
Do we have a back that truly stands out and distinguishes himself?
I'm far less worried about our D, but do we have some lb's who are ready now? Do we have a monster nt?

There are a bunch of questions and fair or unfair, they come back to a bunch of new coaches.

Better than not being an OC anywhere! LOL

So since when is Iowa an apprenticeship? Its the place to learn a new job on the fly? Like Brian learning the OC job on the fly, Polasek is learning to coach the offensive line? People act like we are a high school program. Polasek, if hired at all, should have been hired as the OC, and Brian should be coaching the O line. Brian has no business being the OC at Iowa, but daddy is trying his best to get Brian the head coaching gig when he finally retires, which should have been about 5 years ago.

Wouldn't it be nice to know the 'what if' to that? I kinda had those thoughts back when we first brought him on but...

The problem there is we didn't play our best back the entire year.....Sargent.

Maybe wasn't the best in beginning of season but came on and was the best blocker for Stanley when required to do so. Should have left him in against Northwestern in my view even though he had the fumble on the 2nd to last drive. Maybe we don't have fumble on last drive then.
