Just stated that NW will be considered for the tournament if they win 11 league games. Yeah I understand that's where he went to college. But that's just plain stupid. Timmy, NW has exactly a 0% chance of making the big dance this year.

If Northwestern goes 11-7 in conference play and gives them an overall record of 18-13. If they combine that with 2 wins in the BTT, I wouldn't be surprised to see them on the bubble.

That being said, I don't see them getting to 11-7. But then again, I didn't see them winning 5 conference games period, let alone at the halfway point.

If NW has 11 wins in the B1G their record will be 11-7. That means a 7-2 2nd half and a likely 4th or 5th place finish. If that happens, I'd say he's right. How can you not take the 4/5 place team in the BIG but take 6th through 8th?

Please correct me if I'm wrong; to get to 11 wins, they'd need to win 6 of the next 9, correct? If they are that kind of tear, they'd win a game or two into the BTT and the tourney loves teams that are on the hot streak at the end of the year.

It's a long shot, but not unimaginable/0%.

How do the have zero chance? They sit alone in 4th currently. And why did this rustle your feathers? It's NW.

I'll take bets right now on it for any amount. If they finish 11-7 AND win 2 in the BTT they won't make the tourney. Any takers?

As we saw last year, the conference standings mean nothing. Iowa finished ahead of Illinois & Minnesota in the standings, yet Iowa was the only team of the three not to be invited to the dance. It's all about the body of work. That said, if NW goes 11-7, they will have a shot.

Looking at their remaining schedule, it's pretty easy. That means they have a shot at a strong finish, but that also means there aren't a lot of opportunities for signature wins, either. Other than a win @ Wisconsin, NW doesn't have much on their resume. They'd need a strong showing in the BTT as well.

If I was a betting man, I'd say NIT for Northwestern.

1977Hawkeye, I get what you say about Iowa being passed up last season. But my point is that if you finsih 4th in the B1G at 11-7 (Iowa finished 7th last season at 9-9) if you do not take them, then you are saying "it doesn't matter because they are NW" and I don't think the NCAA can do that. Plus, at 11-7 they'd have 18 wins and wins over top 25 teams fO$U, WUs and Minny. They'd get in. However, I don't think they win 11 games, but if they did, I think they'd be in.

Collins has shown he can coach. If he can recruit a few players to Evanston... the Big Ten will be even tougher

NW in the NIT would be quite an accomplishment for Collins and his players.

BTW I don't follow recruiting like some of you, but I've heard he has a highly rated class coming in next year.
