Tickets, prices, StubHub experience

OK, I'm sure there will be people who will flame away at my inexperience. Don't care. I'm banking on someone being nice.

It's been 20+ years since I went to a game, and my parents paid for my tickets back then, or someone gave them to me because they couldn't go etc. Also, I don't go to many concerts, etc. and I have season tickets for the Cardinals...so I never deal with StubHub and the like.

I look at the 'official' StubHub portal right now at prices for UNI tickets. They're pretty high, considering we're looking at taking my boys just to experience a college football game. Make a weekend out of it. Hawkeye game on Sat., wife is a Panther, and then on Sunday I'd do the Hy-Vee Triathlon.

In your all's experience....

Is there likely to be a wider (and cheaper) variety of tickets available closer to the actual game? I know the first game is likely a little more in demand. But, there's also not a lot of inventory this far out, is that inflating the prices?

Or am I just that friggin' out of touch with reality. I know it's 'in state', but it's not like the Cyclowns. I just looked at tickets for Missouri Tigers football, and you can get those for less than a hotel room. Even against Georgia.

I've bought tickets on Stubhub a few times. I my experiences: in general you're going to pay at least a little more unless you wait a few days before the game. Basically you're paying for what you get. Premium seats for premium price. Nosebleeds for roughly face, higher or lower depending on general demand.

For football, the prices should drop significantly from what they are listed at now and inventory will increase dramatically. No way they'll hold in the high $200s for UNI which was the list price when I checked. But for a family of 4 to all sit together, its going to cost you more than if you were looking for 2 pairs of tickets so be prepared for that.

Many people swear that the best way to buy tickets is to buy them outside the stadium at kickoff. You may miss a tiny portion of the game, but the price drops quickly. You could look for scalpers leading up to game time, and buy a pair if you find a good deal, using the kickoff price as a last resort.

I've used StubHub half a dozen times, all good experiences. Can't say I've done any detailed $ analysis, but the convenience factor is very high.

On Stubhub, you either buy early or late, no in between. If you choose to buy for the UNI game then wait for all the season ticket holders to start listing. The re-seat wont be done until about late April and more tickets will be listed by then. Considering face is like $55 a ticket, you may have to pay like $75-100 for a decent seat for 4 (because stubhub tacks 15% onto each ticket).

If you are more of a gambling man, wait until a day or two before kickoff and the stubhubbers will be looking to dump for much lower prices.

if you want lower priced tickets you have to be willing to wait, take a bit of a risk prior to the game. that being said, in state games are tougher given demands from uni/isu fans wanting to be a part of the game experience inside of 'historic kinnick stadium'......

Part of the problem with what appear to be highly priced tickets is that there are some "add on's" that many do not think about. Most of the tickets sold on Stub Hub are from season ticket holders, of which I am one. The additional $ I pay for my 2 seats include seat backs and a parking pass. I think the seat backs are about $70 for the season and the parking pass is about the same. Additionally, in order to get good season tickets, you are likely donating money to the I Club. A modest (believe it or not) donation for a long time season ticket holder is around $1000 annually. I think when a season ticket holder places tickets up for sale on Stub Hub, where s/he will pay a fee, they likely remember the additional $ they spend on their season tickets.

I use Stubhub each time I go to a game. Have gotten seats in rows 6-8 behind the visitors at the 30 yard line each time. Price is always at or near $108/ticket. I consider this a good price on the secondary market and am happy to pay it. I've bought the tickets between 1 and 2 weeks before the games. Always a conference game.

I've had great luck with stubhub for a variety of events including Iowa FB, bowl games, MLB, NFL, and NHL. Always had to pay a premium for Iowa FB but I like to know I have tickets and decent seats before I plan the 400 mile trip to IC. In contrast, often times for MLB and NFL when the home team is out of playoff contention, tickets get very, very cheap.
