I gave in last night and downloaded the app of one of the newer (and it's hardly brand new) forms of 'social media', Vine. Six-second video clips that are easily shared. I stayed away from this at first wondering about copyright challenges, but a six-second sample hardly seems like a problem especially if you're giving attribution.
That said, here are three of my favorite plays from the Iowa-Minnesota game:
GESELL ATTACKS

In my opinion, it looks like Mike Gesell is playing faster this year with the ball. I think that has everything to do with confidence. He started slowly this year as he recovered from some injuries and perhaps he has fresher legs than everyone else. I also think the new rule changes (when they are applied) are really doing him wonders. He shows a degree of aggressiveness and fearlessness out there and that comes from not thinking as much or worrying about getting mugged on the way to the hoop. I was having my doubts about him as Iowa's longterm point guard solution last year...and even early this year. These last two games? Those doubts are gone for me. My favorite thing about this play was it came right after Minnesota had taken its largest lead of the first half and Gesell seemingly acted like 'Screw this, I'm gonna take it to the rack myself'. His teammates followed as Oglesby would hit two treys...
OGLESBY RAINS

Speaking of fresh legs, Oglesby should have them the rest of this year, as he has played just six games, joining the fray in Iowa's final regular season game. He's hitting roughly 60% from three since coming back and while he won't keep that up, he's finally showing the abilities in games Fran McCaffery has said have been there in practice. Not a moment too soon as this team badly needs a consistent outside presence. What you can't see are the two seconds before this where Gesell dribbled down the right baseline and Oglesby was setting up in the corner. Gesell then reversed the ball and came to the other side, with Oglesby doing the same, running across the baseline. Two screen attempts were made (McCabe and Uthoff) and while they were not great, they proved just disruptive enough to give Oglesby some room at a trey...and it was a bit of a fadeaway, twisted body shot...it was his fourth made trey in four attempts in the first half. When a shot like this goes down, you're in the zone.
MARBLE HEAT CHECK

This shot came not long after Marble had hit a three from the left wing. Keep an eye on him the entire video. When he begins to make his move from the sideline towards Aaron White at the top of the key, he has his hands out sort of in a shooting position and his entire body language is screaming 'I am going to shoot this regardless'.
