This team will be just fine

Wichita State is the first tournament caliber team the freshmen have faced. If you thought this team was just going to roll right in to Big Ten play without a couple of rough games, with this young of a team, you are sorely mistaken. They will be fine. There is a reason that this team is considered a fringe bubble team. That would be due to the lack of experience. Some need to take a step back and take a deep breath. Again, this team will be fine, two freshman in the starting lineup seeing their first strong opponent at this level. They will learn and adjust accordingly.

I'm not down or shocked. WSU did expose weaknesses that will be exposed by B1G teams. Lack of strength and quickness in the post.

So far Mikey has impressed me with his willingness to adapt. He never looks rattled. Has a lot to learn though. He'll be a fine player and likely all B1G Freshman team. He will learn he can't drive and put up on teams with tall weak side help. That's the kind of thing you don't face in high school or AAU.

Adam is about like I expected. Slow and deliberate. I am surprised how much his presence makes a difference. Will he improve: Yes, he will get smarter. Will his athleticism improve: Yes some, but doubt he will become an animal under the basket.

This team is lacking an experienced big and somewhat quick post when the 3's don't fall. The 3's won't fall that often on the road in B1G territory.

Marble took some very silly shots.

The announcers called what would happen in the 2nd half at halftime...

I'm not worried. Against WSU, the Hawks shot the ball about as badly as I have ever seen during the 2nd half. I doubt they will have many games where they are that bad. Bad games sure, but not as bad as we just saw. That's rare.

This, if they just make 5 or 6 more shots and finish even 17 or 18 for 46 from the floor they win and that is still a pi$$ poor shooting night.

But they won't have many games where they shoot the 3 like that in the first half. Also, that is the 2nd bad half we've seen in 3 games. Rare?

What we just saw in the second half against WSU was very rare. Much worse than a typical off-night shooting the gall. I don't have time today to look up statistics, but the eyeball test says that Iowa was just terrible at getting shots to fall. I heard the announcers say at one time in the second half they were 3-17. I think that grew to be 3-19 or 3-20 before the next field goal.

That doesn't happen very often.
