This Program is So Close

Tonight once again showed just how narrow the difference between winning and losing is in the B10. Iowa is no longer overmatched against the conference's elite. We're right there with them, but just can't match the upperclassmen top level talent. Our 5-10 guys are better than Michigan St, we just aren't as good 1-3. This will change, we already have the guys who can be true difference makers in the program. Our defense improved by leaps and bounds this year, I fully expect us to finish in the top 3 in the B10 next year as our offense will catch up with Gesell becoming more of a scorer and the addition of Uthoff and Jok as long as another year of development for the rest of the guys.

Tonight's loss was tough, but overall this program has shown tremendous improvement again this season and will only get better next season.

Not sure on improvement, they seem to fold at the exact same spot in every big game. They don't have a player on the roster has has the guts to stop the other teams run at the end of the game, the whole team just folds like a crap hand when things get tough and that not going to change till you get other players on the roster who won't let it happen

We were the 298th most experienced team in the country, you have to learn how to win on the college level. Good teams like MSU have upperclassmen who can show the freshman how hard you need to play to win at this level, our upperclassmen don't know how to win either, we're learning as a program and we're so damn close right now. These close losses will pay off in the next few years.

This^^^ Good things in store coming soon I think.

"Guts"? Come on. It's not about whether anyone has the "guts" on this team, they are just are not a great shooting team. It's killed them all year. It did tonight.

Logic says this team should be really good next season. My emotional side, and my experience dealing with favored Iowa teams, tells me we'll be disappointing. 8 years without dancing is too much so if they would please break that trend next year, that'd be great.

so close yet so far....as in next year barring injuries. Hard to take right now but I believe we will be better next year because of what we went thru this year

Just need to find that 'guy' who can reliably score. I think we have good talent that will shine if we can put someone on the floor that truly commands the defenses attention

At this time next year, fans will have a legitimate ***** if we aren't firmly in (barring an inordinate amount of injuries, etc).

I thought we'd be in this year (admittedly, I was not aware that the non-con schedule we had was an RPI-killer).

Tonight was crushing ... but I've spent this season watching my alma mater play basketball AND expecting good things. And, as far as I can tell, I get to expect better things in the coming years. That's something.

To be honest, I'm more upset about this loss just because it means this season (as far as battling for a National Championship goes) is over.

There's nothing more fun than watching Iowa play meaningful games (fine, winning them is more fun) and that won't happen for about 8 more months or so.

I'd be ok with just fast forwarding to next November and getting the next year underway (unless the Cubs are awesome this year. I would like to enjoy that too).

I felt going into the season that 20 wins was the next benchmark. If it had come with an NCAA berth that would have been great, but I always thought it was a long shot. However, if you can't do the former there's no hope of the latter. I thought they would finish the season with 19 and possibly pick up number 20 in the postseason, so they actually slightly exceeded my expecations. Barring key injuries, I'd put down money tonight on us making the NCAA's next season and I think a 25-26 win season is entirely possible.

I expect a top 3 B10 finish and top 4 seed in the NCAA tournament next season so I think 25-26 wins is very possible.
