This is blindingly disturbing

Coaches obviously see something in him, even if that writer of whatever site that is doesn't. Whats the worst that can happen? He doesn't pan out? so what, if he does and we miss out on him then were in the loss. I'd rather take him then miss out on something that could be great.

I haven't been impressed with his attitude during the recruiting process either. I know only so many kids with elite athletic potential come out of this state every year, but this kid just doesn't show the kind of heart you would expect of an elite athlete.

Exactly. It's better to go after him and he not live up to his potential than not go after him and he become a huge star somewhere else. A good recruiting class needs a few high upside players.

I don't know anything about the kid but obviously coaches across the country see something in him. The kid has a great frame and imagine what he will become under Doyle's program? I would guess Iowa would see him on the dline.

I go to Xavier Highschool and we played kennedy in our first game. He had 3 wide open balls that he just needed to run under and he missed them both off the hands.

I think he is an amazing defensive player tho. I remeber a pitch to the right and French ran aross the feild to tackle our running back for -1 yard.

He is going to be a complete and utter non-factor as a college football player. I'm sure he's a good kid and all, but I see nothing whatsoever in him after watching quite a bit of video.

yep I agree....he'll need 3 years in college to contribute...he has no real football skills....his star power is on athletic ability alone, not results on the field. I dont care if we get him or not. A kid with massive athletic ability and little football skills should be more than enough in the state of Iowa to take over high school games which he does not

Athletic ability is more than size and speed. If he doesn't have heart, work ethic or desire he won't make it in the next level.

I don't know much about the kid other than the hype. I do know that Ferentz and company have a pretty good track record of success with kids that were not offered other places or may be labeled "projects". Good size and speed can't be coached. Skills and attitude can be coached. If Ferentz and his staff think the kid is worthy of a scholarship then so be it.

Every class sees kids recruited that are can't miss projects and don't make it as well as walk-ons or low-rated that become stars.

Well he has an offer from Iowa, meaning they see something in him, along with a list of other schools, so I think I'll stick with their opinion. Gotta admit though I think his best bet is Iowa, if he has the desire Ferentz and co could make it happen.

Rumor has it that while in the locker room at halftime the other day, the kid asked the score to the Notre Dame game. You can only imagine how well that went over...

Can you give some specific examples of what you don't like about how he's handled the recruiting process?

I have read some articles where the interviewer has asked him what the Iowa coaches have said to him and he made it sound like the coaches were telling him they need him to come here.

I dont care who the recruit is, I do not see anyone on the Iowa coaching staff saying they need anybody to come here.

There is a certain nonchalance that I don't like. The way he talks about the different programs it is like he is going to visit someplace on vacation. Doesn't talk specifically about football. Just doesn't seem all the interested. I would compare him with Zbikowski, who wanted to see the wrestling complex at Iowa and the boxing ring at ND.

Also, hearing French talk, he really wanted to be a basketball player, but decided to go with football because he was getting better offers. I want to hear that football is his true love.

Wow, just wow...

We have a coaching staff with a track record of only taking guys who they think are committed to football. Of course they make mistakes, but how is it that we are able to make judgments on a guy who almost no one on this board has ever met and very few have seen play in person?

The same things were said about Ballard out of high school (good athlete, doesn't like football, doesn't love the game, etc., and other nonsense). Turns out the Iowa coaches were right in their assessment of his future potential. No one can 100% accurately predict what a player will do 1-4 years down the road. But French has all the physical attributes that COULD project to success at a number of positions in college. It would be silly for Iowa to not go after a player of his physical ability 30 miles from campus.

I guess I don't remember negative comments about Ballard. Down here in Kansas he was making the highlight reels nearly every week. He played mostly TE and was crushing opposing defenses. It was considered a huge get for Mangino when he committed to KU early and a big disappointment when he decommitted and chose Iowa. He was the consensus #1 player in the state.

This is interesting, given that Kennedy plays their HS games on Friday nights and Notre Dame plays their games on Saturday afternoon...
