Tom Brands has some great talent! Im getting absolutely pumped for the season to start!!
I started to think about my favorite wrestler recently at Iowa and why he was so successful as a Senior.
Jay Borschel was an absolute animal on top. His ability to ride resulted in dominating the clock and wearing out the guy on bottom. He would often put all off his upper body weight straight into the back of his opponent. That has to make it tough to breathe underneath! He seemed to often get the riding time point which helped him get many Majors.
Remember when Mack Lewnes was uanable to get up? I thought he was going to cry. I was loving every minute of it! Mack put his arms up several times looking for a stall call. He wasnt getting it because Jay was constantly moving on top. (Loved his arm bars) Love me some back points...
Anyways go down the lineup for Iowa, check out how many guys in the lineup are good on top.
I believe many of them will be following in the footsteps of Jay.
125- Well McD is great in all posistions so he can do what ever he wants. Dominator
133- Clark can ride. Good mat skills.
Ramos- not so much. Good on his feet (I really hope he worked hard in the offseason on mat skills)
141- Montel has not been great on top. And imo has made him lose some close matches. But man he is so slick on his feet.
149- It seems like Carew prides himself on riding ability.
"Dont let me on top" he says. Love it
157- DSJ is the wrestler currently on the team i think will most resemble JayBo this year.(McD is a very close second) He should dominate.
165- Mike Evans will also be a beast on top. Moore chose neutral correct? Nick must know something..
174- Lofthouse-He has good potential. Last year he couldnt ride or get out at times and that hurt him. He looks much improved to me now. I almost felt sorry for Klapprott in the wrestle offs.
184- Gambrall looked good at times last year on top but then he had his what did you do that for? moments. Hopefully his injury hasnt slowed his progress to much.
197- Lira- Not really sure. He does appear quite a bit bigger to me this year. I heard he was working with Doyle so you know he has been working hard.
Hvy- Wow Telford showed me something against Blake. He rode him the entire second period. He got a little out of position at times but he looked pretty good. High hopes for him.
Blake Rasing at times did very well on top last year. I was suprised he didnt hold Telford down a little longer.
Also i wanted to mention the Little Ballweg brothers. Mark and Jake look like they are veterans out there. confident and they also love back points!
What a great recruiting class the Brands bros got this year! Wow just wait until those 8 kids get to the room.
This team is loaded for years to come! I love it!! Iowa style wrastlin..
Finally good luck to all the hawks tommarrow at the Lindenwood tourney. Make us proud..
