This Has to be the Dumbest 2 Weeks in the History of the HawkeyeNation Board

I just don't get this board.

Leading up to the Iowa State game, there were literally hundreds of posts talking about dumb Iowa State fans, how the game is Iowa State's "super bowl", and other comments downplaying the game and its importance, obviously ignoring the fact that Iowa State REALLY SHOULD HAVE beaten a very good Kansas State team the previous Saturday (which I would respectfully point out is a better team than Iowa right now and probably one of the best teams in the country, as evidenced by their near miss against Auburn).

After the loss to an obviously improved Iowa State team, this board turns into a dumpster fire. Everything from fire Ferentz to fire Barta. Boycott the games. Don't buy season tickets, etc. etc. After reading many of the posts, you would conclude that it was the biggest upset ever over the Hawks and one of the worst losses in Iowa history.

Iowa State has some talent, folks. They are gonna surprise some people. They are not a bad team. Sorry, but they are not.

Yes, it was a tough loss. Yes, we probably should have won the game. But jeez, it is only one loss. This team will improve. There is talent on the team. Ferentz has the respect of the players and is a good coach. The defense is playing well.

People need to calm down. There are 9 games to go.

The meltdown...in my humble opinion, has as much to do with the last 3 years or so (maybe longer, 2010 was rough too) as much as it does this one game. I think people are just fed up and can see the Greg Davis experiment is just not working, period. This game just happened to be the icing on the cake so to speak of our frustrations with losing and struggling against what the majority of Hawk fans consider inferior opponents. If it were Ohio State, Michigan or heck...even a great ISU Team (I know I know, no such thing) there wouldn't be this level of frustration. Just my two cents.

The Iowa State game encapsulated every critique and complaint fans have with the program, and have had for several years. It was a catalyst.

GFY. If you think Iowa State has a good defense you don't know anything about football. If you think Ball State has a good defense (they gave up 27 to INDIANA STATE) then you don't know anything about football. We played 2 bad defenses in a row and scored 17 AT HOME! I'm not giving up on the season yet, but people are sick of boring football, playing close games, and looking completely lost at home against below average opponents. So are we unreasonable on message boards sometimes? Sure, but we are getting pretty tired of mediocrity.

The uproar amongst Hawkeye fans is over the prevent offense that GD has been attempting to run for 3 years now. I won't rehash what has been posted on the site in multiple threads or has been discussed in multiple podcasts including Jon Miller's.

For you to not understand or comprehend this is either a poorly veiled troll attempt or a stunningly naive view of both Iowa and iowa state football. Neither is very good.

Good day, sir.

While there may be some truth to what the OP says, it doesn't mean there isn't reason to be frustrated as a fan with this Hawks team. The offense has looked putrid for a team returning 90% of it's starters including the QB. Hawks completed 8 passes against a not impressive iSu defense that sold out to stop the run for 4 quarters. The remaining 9 games may paint a different picture and yes it's only 1 loss. Some posters may go a little too far in their expressions of their frustration, but the frustration is valid.

As 10+ favorites since 2006

Ohio State — 38-27-1 (against the spread); 63-3 straight up

Wisconsin — 28-20-1 (ATS); 48-1 straight up

Nebraska — 24-26-1 (ATS); 45-6 straight up

Penn State — 22-16 (ATS); 38-0 straight up

Michigan — 20-17 (ATS); 36-1 straight up

Michigan State — 14-18-1 (ATS); 30-3 straight up

Rutgers — 14-16 (ATS); 27-3 straight up

Iowa — 13-26 (ATS); 28-11 straight up

Illinois — 12-12 (ATS); 21-3 straight up

Purdue — 9-13-2 (ATS); 22-2 straight up

Northwestern — 8-13 (ATS); 18-3 straight up

Indiana — 8-7 (ATS); 14-1 straight up

Maryland — 7-8 (ATS); 13-2 straight up

Minnesota 6-7 (ATS); 10-3 straight up

So, either Vegas is stupid or Iowa consistently underperforms. Judging by the huge nice casinos, I am going with the fact that Iowa sucks.

Iowa 71.7% winning% when favored by 10+
rest of the B1G= 92.5%

It isn't just in our heads. We aren't just out to get Kurt. It is fact. He consistently underperforms.

One of these things is not like the other. So other than Nebraska, we lose more than three times the games against inferior opponents than everyone in the BIG. But hey, it's not a problem, KF is AWESOME!

Hey ChuckO did you see the 2 games prior to the ISU game?! It was just the culmination of ineffective coaching and player performance. WE could easily be 0-3 dipstick

The uproar is not about one game (ISU loss). The ISU game was simply the game that tore the bandaid off a deep wound when it comes to Iowa football. Sorry, i don't think this is a good ISU team. The Cyclones will not win more than 3 or 4 games. As for us, well, we are not a very good football team. Ball State had us beat and should have beat us. UNI was very close to beating us as well.

Fans are tired of seeing us outcoached on gameday; losing to inferior opponents; doing little with the talent on the roster; playing the "safe players" versus risking mistakes with the younger guys. Damon Powell? Get him the ball. This is his last season. He has speed and talent but we don't use him. Daniels did not even get a sniff at RB in the ISU game. I could go on and on ... Again, it's a culmination of what has been building. We have pretty much been a .500 ball club the past few years. Should fans just not question the program? Barta? Kirk? Davis? When fans spend hard-earned money to go to a game, shouldn't they expect to see a good product? This is not going to watch Drake or Simpson ... this is Iowa ... A Big 10 school with wonderful facilities, a very well-paid coach, and a diehard fanbase. Fans definitely have reason to be concerned. We are not Iowa from 10 years ago ... That ship has sailed ... But at least we should not be in the same group of Big 10 teams as Minny, NW, Indiana ... Wisky and MSU passed us by. They are NOW what we WERE 10 years ago.

I would bet that Kurt has more than double the losses than any other coach in this statistic, because nobody else would be able to keep their job when they so consistently lose to the "cupcakes" on their schedule.

Before the UNI game, i tell my wife "this game shouldn't be close." Her response "So they will lose then?" Then Ball St. I catch myself saying the same thing, and I correct it because there is no such thing as a sure win with this regime.

The dumpster fire of posts is a complete joke. Not one of you is even remotely familiar with the decision making process within the coaching staff or the athletic offices. None of you see practices. None of you watch disect film from the point of view of a position coach. None of you have any insight into injuries. None of you has any insight into disciplinary matters concerning the team. None of you has insight into academic difficulties that players may be having. None of you have any insight into family or girlfriend problems players might be having. None of you have any insight into team chemistry. The only person I've seen around here with a complete understanding of Iowa schemes is HawkeyeGamefilm - the rest of you are clueless. Lots of generalizations and assumptions based on how you personally feel about things....we know...you hate...fire everybody...big fan you is....same blah blah after every loss. Speak for yourself, there's 65,000 fans at every game cheering for the Hawks with no intention of quitting on them win or lose and another million or two watching on TV that will continue to watch. They may not all be happy when we lose but they support the Hawks! The hundred or so haters that come on here after every loss do not speak for nor represent the majority of Hawk fans. The vocal minority...wierd how you guys keep disappearing as soon as the Hawks win. The Hawks are 2-1 & soon to be 3-1 after we whoop on Pitty. Go Hawks!!!

Before posting again please create a new screen name...Mr. Excuses. Like no other team in the B1G has any of those problems you've mentioned. I'm confused on what you think the purpose of Iowa football is. Is it winning? If it's not then there's a big effin problem.

I also think you're wrong on how many people are upset at Iowa football. Pull your head out of the sand and pry your lips off Kirk's *** and get real.

Can someone please explain the number in the lower right hand corner of posts? It seems that when idiots post something stupid there is a red negative number that seems to increase in absolute value as the stupidity of the post increases and when someone says something smart it seems to be in green with a number that increases as the thoughtfulness of the post increases. Is this similar to the old feature where I could quote a post and type "Like" or do I need to do something else here?

Thx,

OK4P
