This guy doesn't get near enough credit

Fullback Brett Morse.
After watching him closely last year and especially the first two games this year, he just blows people up. Solid, solid blocker, never misses an assignment, and good hands makes him a receiving threat. I give him much of the credit for our running game the last 2 weeks.
I hope he stays healthy all season. I think not having him available for a game would hurt our offense as much or more than not having one of our starting O-linemen available.
I would like to see him break off a big run in a big game this year. Nobody would be more deserving!

I agree. He played awesome on Saturday.

And losing him would really hurt, especially since Leppert left the team.

Amen! If anybody wants to get a cheap thrill, watch Morse's lead block on the "Hampton bomb" TD run early in the 2nd quarter...absolutely DESTROYED some Cyclone defender. I think solid is a great word to describe him.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who saw that play!
The TV cameras and commentators do a lot of isolations on the O-line, but seldom on a great lead block by the fullback. I know its not a flashy position, and many of the NFL teams have gone away from using a fullback much in their offensive schemes, but I would think he might have a shot at playing on Sundays for the right team.

Just for giggles, I rewatched the first several drives this morning just to bask in the surgical precision in which the offense operated...and had to rewind and play back that block a couple times. Absolutely devastating...

not enough credit...welcome to the FB position :) The good news is that he has a very workmanlike (OL) mentality, and from the interviews I have seen I think he is perfectly fine with being underappreciated. Of course this is not to say that he probably doesn't hope for that long run or a few more PA TD catches in goal line situations! The other beauty of the situation is, that his teammates and Hawkeye Football fans who understand the game will never take him for granted...good original post.

Thank you.

You are right, his coaches, teammates and those of us who know and understand the game appreciate and fully understand his importance to our offense.
If you think about it, in the power I formation, if the O-line does their job it allows Morse to take on a LB at the second level instead of having to try to open up a hole for the RB at the line of scrimmage. If Morses' lead block is on a LB, the RB is into the secondary, and we saw a lot of that last Saturday.
Go Hawks!

Morse IS very good ... no doubt. However, he did miss a few blocks against EIU. Just sayin' ....

Thanks Homer for reminding me to never say never. I should have said "seldom" in my OP.
EIU was the first game of the season though, and I thought he had a solid day that day as well. Defenses look a bit different that first game after scrimmaging against your own D for weeks on end. I still give him an A.

LOL! No worries. I love the fact that our guys enter into each week focussing on trying to get better. The same applies to Morse. He's in line to have a monster year at FB for us. I even have a sneaking suspicion that we may end up seeing the ball getting checked down to him more often too.

Hey Homer, what was your take on our LB play vs.ISU?
I ask you because if i recall, you rewatch the games and I value your insight.
