Thinking the VA game could be much like Stony Brook - ultimately, speed vs size

After VA fan's synopsis and quick look at their roster / stats, sounds like their guards are going to be quick scorers and will probably get their's but won't be able to match the Hawks inside or on the boards.

Seems Iowa's best bet is to attack that "packline defence" with a combo of Woody / Mel / Gabe on the floor at all times for offensive rebounding and quick inside-out passing. Woody needs to keep the ball up and all 3 need to hold on to it tightly.

Don't see many opportunities for RDM to drive 1 on 1 but I get the impression they might over-commit inside if he does penetrate. Could open him up with some high screen clearouts and look to kick back to Mel or AW at the elbows or May / Oglesby (pleeeeaaase, Josh) in the corners. I also like the idea of AW sneaking in behind their box zone for some easy and-1's.

Don't like the thought of AC playing much at all against the 4-back to prevent the run out.

Hoping VA has an off-night shooting (pretty solid at 46% / 38%) and very confident Hawks will clean up on the glass.

"Packline Defence" It's a 2-3 match-up. UVA fan is trying to impress us with their unique defense. (Defence)

If you actually study what Dick Bennett, his son and Jim Boone coach in the "pack line" defense, you will notice that it is not a 2-3 match-up zone. It is more of a sagging man.

Might behoove us to find our shooting touch tomorrow night. I suspect we will get some open opportunities.

Based on what that VA guy said, the perimeter will be open for business. If Iowa hits shots they win. If they go 35% or less they lose. Game wont be won on the fast break.

Didn't Dick Bennet's father coach at Wisconsin with a style that makes Bo's look like the Indianapolis 500 on steroids......

We have proven lately that we can handle the Badger's LickLiike style.....

Hawks win and carry on to MSG, what a thrill for the team and the loyal Hawkeye faithful......

Better let Devyn shoot early and often, and let him make a few baskets. Their best player will probably guard him throughout. Hope Devyn can foul him out.
Let someone other than Marble guard their best player.
