Theory: Kirk Ferentz is banking on winning 3 if not all 5 games to end the regular season

Let me preface this....I don't believe Iowa is going to win all 5. In fact, 1 to 2 wins may be possible having us fall short of a bowl game. Losing all 5 could happen to, although I think that is unlikely, but more likely than winning all 5.

But, if Ferentz wins 3 to 5 games...and gets a bowl win....that still turns out to be an average Ferentz like season. It will be more than good enough for Barta and most Iowa fans (maybe not like the diehards here) who go to the games will have short memories and will buy more tickets for next year.

The Ferentz's will be able to sell that they improved and fixed things and we are back on schedule.

This is part of the reason why Brian is not being fired right now.....besides Kirk's iron-grip on the program and Barta. They know they can still turn this thing around to make a good enough season....even with an historically bad offense. None of the team's left on Iowa's schedule will be able to beat Iowa by 44 points unless the team completely packs it in (mainly the defense).

I don't think the defense will. This would have been the game to do just that, and the defense came out to win this game.

Iowa has Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Nebraska at home. That is favorable there. Wisconsin is looking tougher and Nebraska can score points....but neither of those teams are Ohio St or Michigan.

Although I think this may be the year Minny gets us....we have Minny's number and they are pulling a Minny right now and showing they are not all that. Purdue is the one game where I feel that is a likely loss because they own us....they can score points....Charlie Jones will have a chip on his shoulder for that game......and it is there.

The must wins:
Northwestern
Nebraska

Need at least one win out of these three
Wisconsin
Minny
Purdue

If Iowa loses to Northwestern, I think they go 0-5.

I don't think he's counting chickens before they are hatched. How could he watch any tape of his team and think with a straight face that they can beat anyone? We literally can't score points. Even bad Northwestern and Nebraska teams are going to put up 14 ish points on us. We can't get to that. If we are going to win any games the rest of the way they'll just have to surprise me. I'm having a tough time picturing it happening. Northwestern or not.

This right here.... It'd mentally break everyone involved I would think to lose to Northwestern. They'll have to do it before I believe it though. If NW wins it'll be 14-6. If Iowa wins it'll be 9 to 6. I can't see 25 pts being scored total. Take the under folks

Same goes for Wisconsin and Nebraska. Quite frankly if they can’t find a way to win at least two of those three games I’m in burn it all to the ground mode, or at least I would be if I had any power or was of donor status (I’m not).

And you bet your ass Kirk is banking on winning the next 5. That would be almost on brand for him.
I'm so torn. I'd almost like to see that. I really would. Maybe even upset someone in the bowl game and then have the absolute shit storm of KF feeling emboldened to keep Brian would be inevitable.

Think about this. If Iowa wins out, and Purdue beats Illinois in a couple weeks, it is highly likely Iowa goes to Indy. I say that because Illinois is not going to beat Michigan on the road, and Purdue isn't going to lose to Indiana or NW. If it plays out that way, we would have a three-way tie at 5-3 with round robin head to head losses. I believe the next tie breaker is who has the better division record. Iowa would only have one loss in the West, the other two would have two.

I think Iowa running the table is pretty unlikely so I did not research the tie breakers. That said, every game on the schedule is winnable (and loseable).
